There is no "rule" or "standard" by which academic turf wars are to be fought, but generally if they are fought in public it is unseemly. Drs. Peterson and Hamblin were wrong to air their grievances publicly in the first place (even though their rationale was that they wanted to set the record straight from unauthorized leaks by the MI, which was even more unseemly). But MI, or Blair Hodges, was wrong to wade into the public fora to discuss what is essentially a personnel dispute in academia. He should have shut the hell up, and I suspect by now BYU has muzzled him.
But, then, Bro. Hodges said mean things about me for my stated distaste for the MesoAmerican theory of the Book of Mormon, so you may discount my opinion accordingly.
Ok, fair enough. I'm sure Mr. Hodges is still capable of locking horns in situations where it's not appropriate. If he takes the dressing down and learns from it then that's all he can do I guess.
What did he say about you that was mean?
Personally, I'm sad the blog is going down. This latest episode was surreal. The Internet Mormons beaten at their own game. For a moment, Bill and his friends arguing with David B. may have felt the same frustration a Chapel Mormon feels upon encountering local floods, two Cumorahs, men descending from monkeys and so on.
