Re: Possible Modern Source for the Book of Mormon
My prediction for the apologetic response: the loose translation was even looser than we originally thought. The urim and thummim basically just gave Joseph a very basic outline of ideas, just storyboards really, and he described what he saw in his own words.
"We have taken up arms in defense of our liberty, our property, our wives, and our children; we are determined to preserve them, or die."

Folks, let's not forget that as Deutero-Isaiah gains more traction the Book of Mormon slips further into the abyss. It's going get a lot harder for missionaries to go around and peddle their 1900 century Jesus book. People are not going to fall for this kind of deceit anymore. We live in the information age -- a time of enlightenment -- an era when transparency is required. The Mormon church has worked in the shadows of deceit since it was first forged out of the minds of Joe and has ever tried to hide and bury up the truth.

It's time to play:
Who wrote these verses?
Who wrote these verses?
? wrote:But behold, my little band of two thousand and sixty fought most desperately; yea, they were firm before the xxxx, and did administer death unto all those who opposed them.
? wrote:Nevertheless xxxxx, and his gallant little band, fought hard against them, and drove them from before the strong hold with great slaughter

Gee,
Is it just me, but I don't see any of the regular defenders of the faith making any comments on this thread. I wonder why that is?

I'm not sure why they haven't shown up. If you're willing to try to defend the Book of Abraham you will defend anything. They're probably waiting for the official apologist talking points before they jump in.

Another interesting similarity is the dating pattern.
Helaman 3 uses - forty and third, forty and sixth, etc
P217 - forty and eight
Can't find too many examples in the KJV.. Is this common 19th century vernacular again ?

More phrases in LATE WAR that are familiar to Book of Mormon readers:
LATE WAR, LIV:13, Pg. 217
Book of Mormon, Mosiah 23:36:
-JV
LATE WAR, LIV:13, Pg. 217
13 And Jackson spake, and said unto his captains of fifties, and his captains of hundreds, Fear not; we defend our lives and our liberty, and in that thing the Lord will not forsake us.
Book of Mormon, Mosiah 23:36:
36 And it came to pass that the Lamanites promised unto Alma and his brethren, that if they would show them the away which led to the land of Nephi that they would grant unto them their lives and their liberty.

I honestly believe tears are being shed in many places over this. Think about how devastating it must be to some.
