voting restrictions
Not a topic I know anything about so forgive my ignorance.
My understanding is that these voting restrictions are aimed at minorities indirectly, mainly by requiring ID. poor young people might not have official government ID.
If I'm not too far in left field already, then it's disturbing there would be so many people in the country who are 'under-documented' or 'under-banked'.
It seems like we're becoming a third-world country in places.
Certainly, these people have a right to vote, but rather than campaigns that target voting, wouldn't it be better anyway to target under-documentation? That's a serious problem for a person far beyond not being able to vote. Voting, I fear, isn't going to fix life for poor people anytime soon, however, adequate documentation and a bank account is a barrier to jobs or even government programs and benefits.

We can't take farmers and take all their people and send them back because they don't have maybe what they're supposed to have. They get rid of some of the people who have been there for 25 years and they work great and then you throw them out and they're replaced by criminals.

Re: voting restrictions
The idea of removing mail-in ballots and restricting polling places is also troubling. Actually, any Republican rigging of voting rights seems troubling, especially when it is proposed by a party that wishes to overturn a legitimate election and install a fascist dictator.

Governor Ducey of Arizona signed a bill in March of 2019 to expand the voter ID law in this state. Link
This law was in effect for the 2020 Presidential election here. But Trump lost the 2020 Presidential election in this state. After Trump lost Arizona, Republicans came up with wild and baseless conspiracy theories on why he lost since they really can't blame lack of voter ID law. That is why an illegitimate 'audit' in this state is currently taking place.

They have ID. The reason for the push against laws requiring voter ID is that this makes it tougher for Democrats to cheat in elections. Biden's assertion that requiring voter ID is worse than Jim Crow laws or even close to it is a lie.Certainly, these people have a right to vote, but rather than campaigns that target voting, wouldn't it be better anyway to target under-documentation? And when the Confederates saw Jackson standing fearless like a stonewall, the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

Re: voting restrictions
Not everyone has a Government-issued photo ID.
Nearly three dozen states require voters to show identification at the polls. And almost half of those states want photo IDs. But there are millions of eligible voters who don't have them. A 2012 survey estimated that 7 percent of American adults lack a government-issued photo ID.
While some organizations have sued to overturn these laws, a nonprofit organization called Spread The Vote has taken a different tack: It helps people without IDs get them. And people over 50 years of age have presented some of their biggest challenges.

I'm sure more than that aren't even in the country legally. If they wanted a photo ID they could get it.A 2012 survey estimated that 7 percent of American adults lack a government-issued photo ID.

Re: voting restrictions
After watching people debate politics both here and on the www, I've become convinced that it behooves our democracy to institute a competency test of some sort in order to gain the right to vote. I wouldn't impose any sort of age or criminal restrictions, though. If you can pass a basic civics test and some sort of ASVAB-y test then I'd fee more comfortable with your ability to vote. This goes for both Left and Right. Good Lord, there are some dumb damned dudes out there, and they should absolutely not have the right to affect our political framework.

You just want to suppress the GOP vote.Doctor CamNC4Me wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 6:28 pmAfter watching people debate politics both here and on the www, I've become convinced that it behooves our democracy to institute a competency test of some sort in order to gain the right to vote. Re: voting restrictions
I sympathize. I wish it were possible to devise some demonstrably reliable and uncontroversial means of detecting demonstrably ignorant and misinformed and/or pathologically dishonest people, and preventing them from voting. The big problem is that there are too many scam artists and politicians who absolutely depend on being able to delude and exploit such people.Doctor CamNC4Me wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 6:28 pmAfter watching people debate politics both here and on the www, I've become convinced that it behooves our democracy to institute a competency test of some sort in order to gain the right to vote. No precept or claim is more suspect or more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

Flake: No greater offense than honesty in today's Republican Party
As is becoming increasingly clear, former Republican Senator Jeff Flake from Arizona is completely right about that! It makes me wonder why he still remains a Republican.
Equally clear is that fear that Trump will split the party, if he doesn't get his way, bringing enough supporters with him to ruin any chance of Republicans regaining a majority in the next election, is now the main motivation for what most current Republican leaders say and do. They really don't even try to hide that fact or their abject cowardice!
