That said, you went pulled the dip**** card pretty quickly there.

(Isn't it humorous how Samuel thinks he's Exposing Mormonism per the name of his website? Or is that just me?)

No worries. I have lost count of the times my sarcasm has failed to come through on the Interwebs. I did get a good chuckle out of it. (And I actually got a kick out of reading Samuel the Utahnite a few years back when I was dipping my toes in the waters of Internet Mormonism and ex-Mormonism).

Steve Benson wrote:I've been involved most recently in focusing on information relating to Monson's claim of being boyhood friends with Patton; the timelines and places for their respective educational tracks from primary school to jr. high and into high school; whether the two of them were in the same class; and the years involved. There are various possibilities to explain those relational elements. but some speculation is involved and acquiring the all the relevant information is not necessarily all that easy.

It's not necessarily all that hard either. Over my lunch hour I deduced that Arthur Patton attended West High School in SLC between September 1939 and December 1941, enlisting in the Navy halfway through the eleventh grade. Thomas Monson was a year behind him, attending West High School between 1940 and 1944. So they attended the same high school during the 1940/41 school year and for the first part of the 1941/42 year. Were they in any classes together? Did they sit near each other (M is pretty close to P)? Who knows? In any case, it's very likely that Arthur Patton was a childhood acquaintance, even if they weren't close friends.

My sincere apologies. I misread you completely.

(I'm a complete newbie, can't get these quote things to work. I press submit but nothing happens until I delete the quote)

Uncle Ed, thanks for the nice words (unlike that Shiloh dude, who has been decidedly mean*).

I'd still call myself a believer but I know all the warts. When I can't connect all the dots I do that shelf thing and for whatever reason that's enough for me. No, not difficult for me. I enjoy the church, the culture, raising my family in it, etc.

My dirty secret though is how much I love Mormon podcasts and reading boards like this. It fascinates me still, after all these years. Church history, personal stories, etc.

* Sarcastic. Sort of. He seems like kind of an a-hole to be honest. But mostly b/c he called me a dip**** above. Although it appears he deleted that. Nevermind, maybe he's a good dude.

You can't embed more than two quotes, so if you hit the quote button and it would result in three quotes being embedded, it won't post. It's a pain in the tuckus. You just have to mess around with the quote brackets before posting, or delete one of the embedded quotes.

Well smiles and hugs to everyone. Tall tales just don't get me riled up. Attend any LDS fast and testimony meeting and you will hear lots of them. If that is something that really bothers you, then knock yourself out.

No problem. My apologies for going to sarcasm way too quick.

Thanks for the quote tip, Equality.

I know that it's hard for you RfM Benson sycophants to do just the most basic critical reasoning before throwing out terms like Morgbot, TSCC, etc... but good lord.

But hey, if Samuel the Utahnite represents the level of interest you have in actually studying the problems with Mormonism -- of which there are many -- then have fun. Just know that you will always come off as a moronic douchebag when you venture outside the RfM echo chamber.
