I don't know why your posts seem to bring a smile to my face (well...ok...not all of your posts do this). But, when I read your first sentence above, I actually laughed.
I do love a good mystery, riddle, or whatever you want to call this whole Arthur Patton affair. As I wrote above (or a few pages back now), I just sort of looked him up on a whim but then didn't carry it through to the degree that others did. I really enjoyed reading all that the poster named "just me" dug up after my initial findings since I'd pretty much forgotten about it until then.
As far as hearing tall tales go...just attend a BYU Education Week and you'll come home feeling like you've lived a very boring life compared to all the near death experiences and huge faith promoting, tear jerking personal experiences all the speakers there have experienced. I stopped attending this event even as a TBM because I knew it was all BS. I guess they're under pressure to perform and wow all attendees year after year.
Perhaps we shouldn't expect General Conference to be much different....but we do.
