Worship of Prophet Justified as Gift

Post by _moksha »

Mormons listen to, love and support their church president, Thomas S. Monson, as a "prophet, seer and revelator."

But it is not mere "hero worship," Henry B. Eyring said Sunday at the 184th Semiannual LDS General Conference. "It is a gift from God. With it you will receive more easily the gift of confirming revelation when he speaks in his office as the Lord’s prophet."

Apostle Russell M. Nelson detailed the ways in which the role of an LDS prophet is distinct from other leaders.

For one thing, Nelson said, a Mormon prophet does not seek or work to earn the position. Nor is he elected by a vote, because the longest-serving apostle becomes church president, the system usually brings older men to the office of president.

"Man’s ways remove people from office or business when they grow old or become disabled," Nelson said. "But man’s ways are not and never will be the Lord’s ways."

The Mormon system, he added, provides "continuity, seasoned maturity, experience and extensive preparation, as guided by the Lord."

Henry B Eyring forgot to mention that the Mormon system also provides for this "seasoned maturity, experience and expensive preparation, as guided by the Lord" to be completely disavowed by anonymous essay writers should it result in practices or policies that become embarrassing, scientifically untenable, or socially unacceptable later on.
That said, with the Book of Mormon, we are not dealing with a civilization with no written record. What we are dealing with is a written record with no civilization. (Runtu, Feb 2015)

I would like to exchange my "Gift" for a bag of pretzels. They are easier to swallow.

Now apply that quote to Warren Jeff's.

Tasty.
It is better to be a warrior in a garden, than a gardener at war.

Some of us, on the other hand, actually prefer a religion that includes some type of correlation with reality.
