Yes. I have tremendous respect for Will Farrell in "Elf". Great movie.

The problem lies in the non-agreement of the definition of god. Sure, many people believe in their own concept of god, but there is little agreement on what god is. I think one of the most presumptuous questions out there is, "Do you believe in god?" My reaction is invariably, "Which one?" It's one thing to note many respected adults believe in some sort of god. It's another to equivocate all definitions into a body of knowledge about a single god.

Lots of people have had imaginary friends, but we rarely respect that belief too.
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.
