The Third and Silent Faction: The Snufferites
Denver Snuffer is getting a bit strident in his rhetoric about the temple: http://denversnuffer.blogspot.com/2014/ ... e.html?m=1
Sounds like he's close to releasing a revelation about a new temple he's probably being "commanded" to build, and the utterly immutable ordinances he's probably being "commanded" to introduce.
So, we have the Packer/Oaks/Bednar faction, which is trying to force an uneasy alliance with the old guard Mopologists and the Meldrum Heartlanders in an effort to pull things back to a pre-Internet-era control of information and focus. Those guys would appear to prefer to excommunicate a NOM than adjust the correlated message to retain him. And they seem to envision a Celestial realm where there are but few.
And, then we have the Eyring/Uchtdorf/Christofferson faction, which is in favor of forever marginalizing the shameful scorched-earth Mopologist tactics to the fringes of the web (i.e, Mormon Interpreter), as well expanding the message of the church to attract and retain the very people that Jesus came into the world to save (which is all of them). They seem to envision a Celestial realm teeming with countless trillions of exalted souls, even more.
And, there is a third faction that, while not part of the church, per se, has certainly exerted a noticeable influence on it: the Snufferites. Those guys are poised to exploit the vacuum that has arisen in the once strident Mormon religious culture of prophetic revelation. And they could very well siphon off some of the old-school Mopologists and Heartlanders, especially if Snuffer assumes more of a traditional prophetic role (in the early Mormon sense) in his movement, and less of a guidance counselor role. Snuffer views the Packer faction with as much disdain as the Eyring faction; they're all cut off from God and stripped of the priesthood in his own view.
Feels like a storm is a-brewing.

While I was a young teen when forced into it I did push to be a good member and all. Seminary Prez, mission, BYU - the whole nine yards. Gradually could not stomach it any longer with 'truths' and teachings that would not hold up to the light of day and would not stand to close examination.
As i watch all this stuff and the new 'essays' - carefully chosen and managed spin control - I am so damn embrassed I put in all that effort pushing lies and deceit.
How Monson and Co can keep up the scam is beyond me. Snuffer and such are even worse in their quest for money, power and women.

What is crazy is how people who have been scammed by LDSinc, and then realized they had been scammed, would ever give their money, and eventually share their wives, and join another cult like the Snufferites.
i don't get.

guys are poised to exploit the vacuum that has arisen in the once strident Mormon religious culture of prophetic revelation. And they could very well siphon off some of the old-school Mopologists and Heartlanders,
my gut reaction was "no way" but, now that I think about it a little...
What if the New MI significantly influences the Church (according to the worst fears), the Book of Abraham is removed from the canon, the Book of Mormon is considered ahistorical, and the Bible becomes considered to be primary scripture and the role of Joseph Smith diminished significantly. What if the Church eliminated Smithmas altogether?
And now suppose that Snuffer's congregation grows and builds a temple, and gets a fairly significant and coordinated movement running. Now Suppose that Snuffer, having gotten things under way and the basic doctrines in place, discovers Hugh Nibley, and becomes converted to and vocal about Mesoamerican setting for the Book of Mormon and uses the work of the old-school MI as his starting point for understanding the production of the scriptures.
An now suppose that Snuffer from time to time refers to some of the key thinkers to old-school Mopologetics as brilliant and ahead of their time and so on...
When I think about it that way, it becomes difficult NOT to see it happening.
Lou Midgley 08/20/2020: "...meat wad," and "cockroach" are pithy descriptions of human beings used by gemli? They were not fashioned by Professor Peterson.
LM 11/23/2018: one can explain away the soul of human beings...as...a Meat Unit, to use Professor Peterson's clever derogatory description of gemli's ideology.

Much stranger and more ironic things have happened in Mormonism. I live in an area where there are quite a few polygamists. Not just the FLDS kind, but (as we call them around here) also the "Centennial Park" kind too. The ones who, if you saw them at Walmart, you wouldn't be able to distinguish them from anyone else in the store. According to them, they are the ones practicing "real" Mormonism. And it's hard to argue with them.

Ludd, without revealing too much about your identity in which area of the country do you live? I'm in South-East Salt Lake Valley, and just wondering if any of these 'under-the-radar' polygamists live around here?Ludd wrote: I live in an area where there are quite a few polygamists. Since my own devout wife (of all people and against all odds) has become a hardcore closet Snufferite, I don't inclined to feel very skeptical about the possibilities. (And according to her, based on anecdotes gleaned from conversations with other Snufferites, there is a large and burgeoning groundswell of sleeper heretics in wards all up and down the Mormon corridor. A couple of weeks ago she dropped the name of a TBM Mormon celebrity she met at one of her Snufferite Sacrament Soirees.)
