This tune hit number 2 in 1962 (Kenny Ball and the Jazzmen). It was well liked and seems almost odd given the events happening at that time. This recording is a little older. My parents had an old suitcase 78rpm record player hidden in the closet. Every now and then my dad would get it out and we'd hear the "golden "oldies." Sing, Sing, Sing, with a Swing has to be the most incredible jazz recording, and one I totally enjoy hearing again and again. July 6, 1937, "Sing, Sing, Sing" was recorded in Hollywood with Benny Goodman on clarinet; Harry James, Ziggy Elman, and Chris Griffin on trumpets; Red Ballard and Murray McEachern on trombones; Hymie Schertzer and George Koenig on alto saxophones; Art Rollini and Vido Musso on tenor saxophone; Jess Stacy on piano; Allan Reuss on guitar; Harry Goodman on bass; and Gene Krupa on drums. The song was arranged by Jimmy Mundy. Unlike most big band arrangements of that era, limited in length to three minutes so that they could be recorded for a one side of the standard 10-inch 78-rpm shellac record. This version which Goodman’s band recorded was an extended and ran 8 min 43 seconds --- covering both sides of a 12-inch 78.

This song always gave me goose bumps when a Kid. However, Vaughn Monroe's 1949 version I feel has the best scare quality. I remember my dad once starting to play this record when I was really little, and I said turn it off --- turn it off!!!! This one is a golden oldie from the early days of Television. I do actually remember this show but I must admit I was very little. Ernie Kovacs was a genius and this skit is but a rare glimpse.

Again for an international feel I submit a tune that reached 39 on the record charts in US in 1953. To think that this variety of music was once played on top 40 radio stations throughout the US once upon a time... Here is the song that really got me dancing --- back in the day. We would do a Bristol Stomp to this song by the Supremes. The Bristol Stomp action kind of was like a more "groovy" Philadelphia Mummers' Strut coupled with the Mash Potato I still love this tune and the memories flow back to a very happy time.
