You mean TOBIN, and his alien who came to stop him having sex. Look, I believe that there are probably intelligent living beings somewhere else in the cosmos at this moment. But does that mean I have to believe every nut who claims one of them turned up to stop him having sex?

Give me a break.

Though when you think about it, there are quite a few people out there who do believe an alien angel showed up to someone else and commanded him regarding sex. I would expect those people to be more open to the possibility that Tobin is telling the truth. Maybe Brian Hales can do a tweet about Tobin and his experience. 140 characters ought to cover it I think.

Please read this thread for yourself and find them yourself.
Stop expecting me to do your work for you.
If you want to know - LOOK!

You made an assertion, that there were specific examples on this board of skeptics denying the possibility of intelligent life elsewhere in the cosmos.

You did so as a mere assertion, without any supporting evidence. Now you are saying that there are repeated examples on this thread.

Again you do so without any supporting evidence.
When asked to provide some, you refuse and play the 'find it for yourself' game.

OK. I assert that you have identified yourself repeatedly on this board as a user of extreme child pornography.

Where's the evidence, you ask? My response: Just LOOK. I don't have to do your work for you.

(See something wrong there? Something unreasonable?)

That's why people who make claims have the duty to back them up with evidence when asked, you see. Because otherwise any idiot could make any unsubstantiated claim and then tell people who objected that it was up to them to find the evidence for themselves.

Amore, not believing in the possibility of extraterrestrial of life, and not believing Tobin are two very different things. You do know that, don't you?

Clearly, no. Anyone can LOOK at her comments and see that.

Everyone else can see there is a big leap between believing in the possibility of "intelligent life out there" and believing there for sure are aliens visiting Earth and trolling humans.

The need for evidence goes both ways... unless you you have great blind faith in a particular belief.

You're joking, right Amore?

I mean, you're not seriously saying that one should agree to every proposition for which one has not "traveled the universe and gathered evidence" against?

You know about the teapot that Bertrand Russell talked about, I assume.

by the way, do you agree that tobin met a real space alien? I don't say that it's totally impossible, but I do say that there is insufficient evidence available to em to concede that it happened. Don't you?

by the way, SP, didn't tobin use the appearance of said space alien as evidence (for himself) that it was the god of the Book of Mormon?

Amore wrote:You're jumping to conclusions - I never suggested you accept every possibility not proven false.
What I wrote implied that if you have no proof of something that has a significant possibility, even if not proven, you should never discount it's possibility.
Basically - keep an open mind.

I believe that there are many things in this world that we are clueless about.
I've always been a bit skeptical, in wanting to understand the how's and why's.
But I realize there are some things that are beyond "logical" understanding.
I've had some spiritual experiences, and I've known others who have had some, that make me believe that Tobin did experience what he said he did. Of course, it could be interpreted many different ways, and I think spirituality is based on resonance. Some may have interpreted it as a spiritual being, another may have assumed it to be just another person. This happens some times.

I know this gets really deep - into other dimensions... and I'd be lying if I understood them all (as would anyone I think)...

Like others responding to you here, I'm having a lot of difficulty seeing any justification for your OP - please indicate by in-context quotes where members of this board are declaring the impossibility of something for which there is reasonable evidence. Or, if you find that my paraphrasing does not properly represent your position, please feel free to correct me.

by the way, just curious - do you agree that tobin met a real space alien?

It often appears to me that Amore's definition of "herd mentality" is widespread acceptance of anything she would rather not believe, even if it is overwhelmingly supported by incontrovertible evidence and sound reason. If multiple people disagree with her on anything, her default position is to attribute that to "herd mentality."

She needs to realize, though, that sometimes, even often, the "herd" actually gets it right!

No precept or claim is more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

Yep. What's hilarious is the most skeptical view in the thread, from EA, got a big thumbs up from her for being "open minded".

I'm curious what kind of advanced alien life Mr. Tobin evisions exists, and what kind of technology they have if they're here?

I can't imagine, with the kinds of time and distances we're dealing with, we'd ever come into contact with another alien civilization.

I'm sorry, what was "this?" The resonance indicating the different personalities of people? What on earth does that have to do with other dimensions?

Anyway, I watched the video, and oh boy, it's really deep. It's garbage, and so you would in fact be lying if you say you understood "all the dimensions" explored here as would anyone, including and especially the author of the video. The biggest mistake of the video in my opinion, is that it shows dimensionality building up logically, as if we could start from drawing a line and step back to derive flatland, and then jump up and view our world from a higher dimension as we view flatland and then on and on successively until all possible universes become a single point, and in the process, general relativity (4 dimensions) and finally M-theory (10 dimensions) is derived through sheer intuition. That's ridiculous. There is no logically prior appropriate number of dimensions for describing reality. Dimensionality in theoretical physics is ad-hoc.

A thorough debunking point-by-point would require someone like Tarski, but in lieu of him, those interested can read this link:
