What I meant was that the term bastard refers to a child that is illegitimate, and I guess I have a problem with people using a derogatory word that indicates there's something wrong with a child just because of something that child's parents did or didn't do. I don't like the term bastard at all.

How is the child of two unmarried adults, "illegitimate"?

Hi Spanner,

There 's a long response here.

I haven't had time to read through all of it, but you may find it of interest.

To retouch the subject of the thread this link supplies amusing comments:

On the Historicity of Jesus by Richard CarrierOn the Historicity of Jesus: Why We Might Have Reason for Doubt (Sheffield Phoenix Press, 2014) by Richard Carrier

An Impressive, but Complete, Failure -- review by David Marshall on Amazon.com
August 3, 2014; 2.0 out of 5 stars

This review is from: On the Historicity of Jesus: Why We Might Have Reason for Doubt (712 pages, paperback)

In this book, Richard Carrier writes big checks on his own objectivity, knowledge, and sound judgment. He often appeals to his objectivity, while deriding that of scholars who hold opposing views, whom he hints are too hide-bound or fearful to come to the dark side and embrace his views. He makes dozens or hundreds of judgment calls, defending them in the first person ("I judge" "

..... Despite its impressive facade, to call the structure of this argument "flawed" would be a compliment to flimsiness. It totters in dozens if not hundreds of places. If the termites (united by collective Promethian will) stop holding hands, it will immediately blow away in the wind, and leave not only the historical Jesus, but I would say the Jesus of the Gospels, calmly standing before us, bemused by the ruckuss, to which he has long been accustomed."
.....
I have only chosen some colorful phrases to cheer up the thread a bit.

An absence/loss of hope in a purposeful universe/cosmos...where WE are part of that universal purpose. That we are part of the collective in a very REAL way...not outside it without any ongoing rhyme/reason/purpose connected with the whole.

KevinSim,

You seem to be hung up on the dictionaries definition of Bitch

There is another definition which for politically correct reasons could never be added there.

6. A women born and raised and grown old in New Jersey. Self sufficient, opinionated, outward facade hard as nails, inward but never to be seen publicly a golden heart. A real bitch and proud of it.

I'm framing this bit!!!

I have a question wrote: She is far more competent at understanding words and context and in handling acerbic posters, such as myself. She is twice the man you are.

:-)

This isn't difficult to understand. If there is a female poster who takes offense at some of the comments that are regularly employed on a male dominated board, she either won't be on this board or she'll move her interactions to posters who fit better with the type of communication she seeks. I think male posters do the same thing. I think that I do the same thing.

If anyone bothers to read the things I write here, there is a marked difference in how I handled the interaction with IHAQ and Cam, let's say, than I handled interaction with (what comes to mind because I enjoyed it so much, is) Gunnar, beastie, and Froggie on beastie's "Death without God" thread.

All I did was meet IHAQ "where he was" and responded in kind. I did it because I felt like it, and there are times when I don't feel like it. I don't think this should be a huge deal unless someone truly feels that they are being harassed via repeated gender slurs or other types of personal attack that really feel damaging to the person.

I credit myself, and perhaps I give myself too much credit, for being able to communicate with almost anyone. I don't limit participation to posters who always meet me with kindness, because I know that I don't always meet people with kindness, we're all human (some more than others ;-) ) and I think that most of us here have something to teach each other.

So basically, I guess, if you see that someone is being made the recipient of what you believe are offensive remarks, wait to see how that person handles it. If they truly appear to be in distress, then by all means, step in. If it looks like they've been able to handle the situation then really, just leave it alone.

Old river guide song, written after the likes of Jersey Girl.

Mary Ann Barns was the queen of all the acrobats
she could do the tricks that would give the guys the craps
she could shot green peas from her fundamental orifice
do a somersault and catch em on her tit

She's a great big Son-of-a-Bitch, twice as big as me
with hairs on her ass like branches on a tree
She can hunt, fish, fight, “F” pull a train and drive a truck
That's the kind of girl that's gonna marry me!

did I just reveal in real life? Jersey Girl's maden name

A song from the good old days when men were men and women were hairy.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

I know this is an incredible derail, but I'm going with it. If this board had a threaded view (archaic by today's standard, which is now in favor of the linear format) this whole derail about bitches :-) would fan out into it's own sub thread. So I'm blaming the format now. :-D

Old? Screw you, buddy!

Actually, I'm not in Jersey right now, but I do spend a lot of time there and actually communicate with my relatives and friends every single day of my life, thanks to Facebook and texts, etc. People here don't understand what East Coast heart means. I'll re-work a recent dialogue from my Facebook messages, in an attempt to show you what that means, and I guess give you a glimpse into how Jersey Girl's communicate with each other.

Me: WTF, her mother has freaking dementia and she let's her live alone? Stupid damned bitch, she should be taking her in to live with them, they have money coming out of their ass!

Her: I know, right? I can't stand that bitch! Her mother is there all alone, someone could break into the house and her mother wouldn't even know it. She could get murdered for Christ's sake!

Me: So let me get this straight. Right now there's a blizzard coming in and her mother is there all by herself. The damned power could go off, she could freeze to death and her stupid bitch of a daughter is sitting over there in her warm house? “F” her!

Her: “F” this crap. When I go over there on the bus from Newark to visit my brother in the hospital, I'm going to walk over to her house and see if she's okay.

Now, in spite of the language, do you see evidence of what East coast heart is? If I don't show it to you guys, it doesn't mean that it's not there.

Hint: These are the bitches that you want hauling your ass off to the ER and who will watch over you there for days on end, and not complain even once about it.

Oh yeah, that's the difference between a selfish bitch and me.
