Because God left humans in charge of making the rules and humans always distort the rules to make themselves look better than their neighbor.

I think this is a good reason not to trust the question what is the good. You always get manipulation. If you do not know inside to start with you are dead man walking. Sure there are thousands of variations of rules. The disagreements about those will continue and continue and continue.
