Indeed, it is a modern addition -- a horrible mutation and a violent and slanderous act performed by the leadership of the Latter-day Saint church based in Nauvoo Il. The modern Church today in Salt Lake City and its paid Egyptologists working at BYU continue to maintain the BIG LIE.
Shame on you, John Gee. You have no honor. You've cemented your position in infamy and will be remembered as the Egyptologist who peddled lies in order to collect a paycheck from the Mormons whom you so shamefully defended with your lies.

And, if I may add to your succinct and spot on observation, he was also the LDS Egyptologist who was defeated by Robert Ritner so thoroughly, so overall competently, and in amazing detail clearing away the Mormon obfuscation of desperate attempts to save Joseph Smith's translation, that the only reply left to use was ad hominem, and innuendo, which Gee deployed with such powerful adroitness it literally left his credibility in shambles to all who read his mental gymnastics of improbable reality he hoped was there, but which isn't and never has been.Shulem wrote: ↑Sat May 15, 2021 2:21 pmPhilo Sofee wrote: ↑Sat May 15, 2021 1:37 pm

OOps! I just went up and added the twit to the bottom of the list. Yeah, I forgot about him because he's so easy to forget. He's Gee's little lapdog.

He is one of the single worse offender's for the word I have ever seen with his blatant lies about the total accuracy of Smith's facsimile explanations. Just absolutely unbelievable someone can so ignore the truth of the reality and the evidence in order to bear a "testimony." If this is the end result of what Mormonism does to people, then I say "NO , definitely NO."Shulem wrote: ↑Sat May 15, 2021 4:33 pmPhilo Sofee wrote: ↑Sat May 15, 2021 2:55 pmNicely collected for our listening convenience. Re: How Did I Stop Believing My Own Evidence for the Book of Abraham?!
KerryM in one video makes much of the hands raised in fac 1 as indicating that the figure was struggling to get off the couch. Some debate has occurred on Smith's restoration of the missing parts. Baer said in his Dialogue 1967 article there were no fibers in the glue indicating that parts had fallen off before Smith acquired the papyri. nonlds scholars suggest the upper "hand" is the wing of a bird hovering over the figure on the couch. Debate rages on as to how many specks appear on the wing to indicate it is a bird's wing. The other interesting thing is a image I found which shows the Egyptians drew hands with fingers of equal length. IMHO the bottom hand in fac 1 has fingers of equal length while the "top" hand does not.

Although this non-LDS Egyptologist believes it is a hand, and his reconstruction of the scene would actually make Smith less wrong than many other reconstructions: http://www.mormonthink.com/files/Lanny_Bell_article.pdf. Figuring out the exact original form of the vignette is difficult, because "every proposed reconstruction of the vignette of P. Joseph Smith I entails attributing to it at least one 'unique' element", i.e., while it's a type of scene that shows up a lot in Egyptian art, the surviving pieces of the vignette don't quite match any other known examples of the scene. That gives the apologists a tiny bit of wiggle room, though not enough for their arguments to actually make sense.Hauslern wrote:nonlds scholars suggest the upper "hand" is the wing of a bird hovering over the figure on the couch.
