I don't think Tobin was ever anally probed. I believe what happened is that they mistook his ass for his face and shoved the probe down his throat. Unfortunately, with the energy coming off that thing so close to his brain cavity, it fried him a little... well, more than a little.
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

Even that is no crazier than the story Tobin tells.
No precept or claim is more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

Really? How about the immaculate conception of Jesus Christ? That is some crazy crap huh? I'm sure you belittle Christians all the time about it don't you? What a pathetic loser you are Gunnar.

I doubt that you believe in the immaculate conception of Jesus Christ any more than I do. How would your advanced space aliens have accomplished that, and why would they have wanted to?

Of course I don't believe in the immaculate conception of Jesus Christ. I also don't continually harass Christians about their personal belief in it, especially when they don't bring it up. No where in this thread have I brought up my experience. Yet you felt the need to harass me about what I personally experienced.

This could help explain the sudden disappearance of Bcspace. Let's hope those aliens are gentle with their probes.

BS.

1) You vastly vastly underestimate the number of cubic parsecs in our galaxy.
I think I should have inserted a few more instances of the word "vastly" in that sentence.

(Just focusing radio telescopes in every possible direction is trouble enough even for an advanced species and that is just an issue of spherical area rather than volume.)

2) You vastly underestimate the resources, both physical and economic, needed just to visit a few distant locations.

3) There is no reason to think another species, even if intelligent, will be any wiser or less violent and political than we are and we will almost certainly destroy ourselves before we even put more than a few people (if any) on mars. I predict that chaos, dislocation, starvation and break down of societies due to a combination of climate changes and radical political and religious violence will make even returning to the moon unlikely. (Sorry)

Drake's so called equation not withstanding, I see it this way: If there is life out there, it is probably well adapted without even needing fully extendable grammatically flexible language as are all of the other millions of species on the planet. If there are language using creatures out there with advanced technology, they are almost certainly violent, self-destructive, stupid, and ideologically at war with themselves. Language isn't that great of a trick in the long run as far as sheer survival. It causes more problems than it solves.

I have yet to hear even a remotely practical or realistic way to overcome just the issues with things such as payload and radiation just to get us to mars and the probable psychological obstacles are also probably far greater than most people imagine.

Science fiction is a poor guide to the future. If it were, we would have flying cars already rather than iphones and internet porn.

LOL That is absurd. You think an intelligent species would just wander aimlessly exploring our galaxy? That is the only way your comment makes the least possible sense about the "difficulty" of exploring the vastness of our galaxy in cubic parsecs.

Oh, they are now trapped using our level of technology? Why would they be flying around using chemical rockets?

Wow, you are a real optimist. I sure hope none of your predictions come true.

More optimism from our friend Tarski condemning all advanced species to oblivion. ROFL

Here is one. Maybe not all advanced species are as stupid as we are and have a few less naysayers/pessimists.

I really doubt that the vast majority of scientists that believe that advanced life exists in our universe are engaging in purely science fiction. But if you feel passionately about it, maybe you should seek to have SETI shutdown.

If you were right, they would have been here by your own logic and it would be obvious. But they haven't.

To put it another way, the very fact that there are no alien visitors is strong evidence that I am right. On the other hand you have no evidence of visitation or any other of your scifi religious fantasies. Evidence against no evidence, I win.
