Possibly an apt analogy. I wonder, though, what Mormonism will be like if and when Scientology becomes as Mormonism is now. Will it still exist?

Both will eventually end up as bland, shallow, and harmless as mainstream Christianity.

As for mainstream Christianity, it's begun the slow, painful process of shedding itself of the last of its offensive teachings. This would be the teaching that says, "Good people go to Hell, but Christians go to heaven."

I hope you are right about the harmless part especially. I wish we could have some assurance that the same thing will happen to the brutal despotisms like North Korea that still exist in the world. As for the bland part, unless that is the only way they can become truly harmless, I would rather see them evolve into a positive influence for good, if at all possible.

According to the dictionary definition of "cult," pretty much all religions are cults, including Christianity.

I'm referring to the actual traditional definition, which refers to a group that crosses the moral and law abiding line, i.e. how Law Enforcement would classify a cult.
