Re: The Apostasy of the LDS Church
I wonder why it's so hard for some people to understand that it's not about the truth value of LDS religious claims. The issue is that the LDS church does not hold itself to its own standards or follow its own doctrines. It's apostate under its own terms.
That's what got me out. I quit believing in the modern corporation, and then it went down from there about finding at which point Mormonism was still true. And then you get to where it never was.
I mean, with Tobin, I don't wonder why he can't process things other than in a hyper-literal way with no sense of empathy. I mean other people in addition to him.

Re: The Apostasy of the LDS Church
I think if the Mormon God exists ( whatever they are?), they don't really care that much (if at all) about us. We would be like bacteria in comparison. I certainly don't think they would care if or when we temporarily drown our children in water or not.Tsuzuki wrote:I'm not a huge fan of their god, so probably. (He did order the slaughter of children. Denying them baptisms is consistent with that.) But here I'm speaking from a believer's perspective.

It is not clear to the lawyers of the board what the exact legal threat is that would incur such huge monetary losses. And, no one is able to find a case in which a church was successfully sued for parental alienation.
Thanks, I will look into this....

If the Mormon God existed, by definition he would care about us more than anything, since that's one of the properties of the Mormon God. Tobin is just envisioning a deity in his own image.

Re: The Apostasy of the LDS Church
Hey Kerry!
As a never-Mo (I think you know this, yes?) I have no freaking idea what this is all about - it absolutely makes no sense to me.
Truth be told, I think it's the entire debacle is nothing short of bizarre!
Having said that - If I had to guess - and this is surely and only a guess - I would propose the following:
It is not based in and/or from stupidity.
To suggest that the LDS church is stupid is, in my opinion, an extraordinary miscalculation on several fronts.
These kinds of things don't just get rolled out. They are measured, re-measured, discussed, re-discussed, evaluated, re-evaluated, and after that, there are teams of lawyers and several high-ranking LDS folks who have their fingerprints all over something like this before it is presented to the world.
What is this really all about? In my opinion (guessing) it is about control. Period.
Peace,
Ceeboo

There is no way even the brethren are this frickin stupid. They *can't* be, evolution refutes it. So, it must be something else. I suspect it has to do with money. Now behind the scenes I have read they have already had lawsuits that they have LOST. This if multiplied by the thousands or higher can get into BILLIONS of bucks man. The fallout of having a policy like this is some collatoral damage of losing some members (they were lukewarm anyway they probably reason), while if we actually act like what Christ wants us to, it's gonna cost us billions, and the mall being built and such, we cannot afford that, so better to give ourselves a black eye, than lawsuits sink the ship. This is my speculation only. I have seen estimates where the income annually is from between 6 billion and 60 billion. When it gets to be that huge of an amount, souls, truth, reality become secondary and not worth worrying about. It has to be SOMETHING about the MONEY man.....It's not stupidity, it's survival mode that this policy was implemented for. Yes its gruesome, but if Christ would actually lead these yokels instead of sit in yonder heavens sipping his hot morning coffee chuckling, they wouldn't have become this biased, prejudiced, and bigoted in the first place would they have? It's going to be something about the money, I can almost guarantee it.

I would like the Mormon god a lot more if it wasn't identified with the Abrahamic monstrosity.

And considering the actual historical scholarship on that Abrahamic monstrosity is that it originally was a mere Canaanite deity of not so significant proportions until the Jews made him bigger and badder than he was as a mere Canaanite twink. In other words, Yahweh is *not* an original actual existing deity living before all other deities in a pre-existent state or otherwise. He is an adaptation of a mere pagan yoyo somewhere lost in time. Mark S. Smith "The Origins of Biblical Monotheism," is essential on understanding this score. So if Jesus is considered as Yahweh, then uh........DAMN! A bigger boner boo boo was never had in all of religion. Think about it.....

Mormonism needs to get back to its occult roots.

I have found through sad experience it is a difficult thing to overestimate the brethren's capacity for frickin stupidity.
Given a panoply of options for dealing with a situation, the brethren seem to have an unerring ability to make the most stupid decision.
Over and over again.
That is why I felt sure in predicting the three new apostles would be successful American white guys from Utah.
Many told me I was not right in my prediction. Why not? "Because," said my detractors, "The Church would not be that stupid."
"Ah," I responded with confidence born of experience, "But that is exactly why they will do it. Because it is the stupidest decision they could make."
And lo, that is exactly what they did.
I should have bet money on that one.
But this newest policy is remarkable in that no decision had to be made.
It is a self-inflicted head wound.
An unforced error.
With this new policy, the LDS Church has launched itself into new atmospheres of stupidity.
And all the world wondered after the beast.
