Mak, do you believe these boundaries were intended only for SSM between religion and secular, or were internal boundaries also intended ... with an ever losing proposition with the internet, and an every widening tent? Did they do this too late, did they overestimate the "cult of authority"

I couldn't say right now. I think the motivations are multifaceted and will likely be massaged as additional clarifications come out in response to the backlash.

No, I'm not going to be linking to or posting my social media stuff here.
Of course you're not.

Same here. If the church is going to move forward, it needs good, thoughtful people like you. Once upon a time I would have been right there with you.

That's right. Whatever silly rhetorical jab you're trying to make, I have for years been consistent about not wanting my name shared directly on this website, even though it's not a secret and I link in all my posts directly to my personal blog with my full name on it. I don't think anyone taking advantage of anonymity on a discussion forum, for whatever reason, has principled grounds for dismissing the qualified concerns of another poster who does not otherwise demand anonymity.

And I certainly can't begrudge anyone who does not feel like remaining any longer, for whatever reason. I hope it's been clear that that's always been my position.

Dear Mak,
Your recent participation in this thread has placed you in an ever higher regard than you already were in by book.
Considering many things (a mere few of them being that you are a devout Mormon, you work for the LDS church, you came to this board and answered the question that was asked of you, on the open board - and you are most certainly, like countless other Mormons, trying to handle this "situation" as best as you can)...................... I think you have done a remarkable job and I think you should be commended and applauded for displaying your character, your integrity, and your courage to stand!
Don't worry about folks like Cam, I am very confident that the great majority of MDB members - as well as the great majority of MDB lurkers - offer you our sincere respect. Clearly, in my mind, you have earned it!
Peace friend,
Ceeboo
