I stand corrected.

Of course. I realize that this is why you are unable to directly address so many posts by myself and others. ; )

Did you ever see him on the Tonight Show back then with Johnny Carson? He seemed quite different when he was on there. Did you notice that, too?

I think originally I intended to write a much more caustic post. But some comments made me realize that most people's awareness of Cosby starts with Dr. Huxtable. It was when I started to think about those early comedy albums, and realized how long he had been shaping our culture and my heart softened a bit.

But it is hard to reconcile his public persona cultivated over decades with the serial drugging and raping of women. How do you evolve to that point in your life?

I didn't remember seeing Cosby on Carson, so I went back and looked at one clip. His routine seemed much more rehearsed. There wasn't the flow that you get get from him in an extended set. You could feel him dealing with a time constraint. Looking further I found an article about Cosby forcing a woman to perform oral sex on him (where else?) backstage at the Tonight Show.

I think you're right that most folks think of Dr. Huxtable. I remember watching him on I Spy and it never occurred to me that he was black. I don't know whether to attribute that to his acting abilities or how I was raised.

I have no idea. I think that if these things are true, and I think that they are, there is some part of his personality that could possibly be described as compulsive. It has got to be something to do with power and control. But I don't really know how someone "gets there" in their head.

When I mentioned the Tonight Show, I wasn't thinking about his performances. I was thinking about him sitting there talking with Carson for which I can find zero videos. In any case, I struggle to find words to describe what he was like then. Sort of egotistical and smart assed. That's the best that I can do at the moment.

The moment I first heard about Cosby's criminality, it was like an "a-ha" moment for me. I was never impressed by his career. The Cosby Show sucked ass, as far as I was concerned. The dude wasn't funny. Sure, I watched Fat Albert as a kid, but that was because it was a cartoon, and I liked cartoons when I was young. As I got older, Cosby always struck me as a pretentious, moralizing prick.

I've always said, the people who are the loudest trying to convince others to be moral are likely the people we should suspect the most. And you can bet he used his reputation to entice women into trusting situations.

What's the count up to now? 50+ women (who have actually said something)? damned douche bag. I hope he rots in prison.
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.
