Rosebud asks a good question upthread. Why do people buy in to the notion that Jean was completely dominated by her father, yet balk at the notion that Ron could influence the perceptions of his minor children?

You're taking Ron's story at face value. You have no idea what the therapist told the daughter.

I think the therapist did just fine. I think the recommendations she made were appropriate. I think she acted in the interest of her clients, which were the kids.

I think the GAL's report was appropriate. (I'm not sure a GAL was needed.) I don't take Ron's description of the meeting or his kids' reactions at face value.

Changing one's mind is not suborning of perjury. What Ron ignores is that the court order in place at the time said that the daughter would be with J..

On the evidence Ron has provided, the mother asked that K live with him. Ron complies. Ron makes it known that the kids can go to their mum any time they want. Ron suggests a dinner or some other activity in order to build a relationship with their mum. Ron makes every effort to comply with wife's wishes.

He is then accused of not following court orders and returning K when J..... had actually dropped her off. Are we reading the same documents? Ron feels that both Jean and her lawyer have purposely placed in him a position of being in contempt of the court order. The evidence he has provided suggests that to be the case.

Ron has emphatically claimed over and over that the lawyer suborned perjury. I looked the materials he gave us. It's not true.

Can you understand at least why he considers it to be true.

Just like it's not true that the divorce was out of the blue.

Wow. They had a fiery and rocky marriage and they *pushed each other's buttons*, but that doesn't mean to say that Ron wasn't genuinely surprised when he was served with papers for a divorce. People have rocky marriages that get better, that are worked through. They had a temple marriage.

Just like its not true that J.... "beat MK...leaving him bloodied and bruised" even though that's how Ron describes it over and over and over again
.

J... was physically aggressive with MK as both he and the mother in the phone transcript admit. The mum finds it hard to cope with the boys, on occassion she becomes physically aggressive. She later admits this after denying it. She plays it down. She has a temper. She is on medication. It's a traumatic time for her. But what it shows is that she, like Ron plays down her bad points. She is willing to lie under oath.

Ron is not a reliable witness in this matter, and it's crystal clear that he's repeated his version of the story to MK so many times that MKs language and phrasing mimics his father's.

Rubbish. All children's language can mimic the parents, the parents are childrens prime language role models after all. That doesn't mean that what McKay is pointing out is not his sincere reflections and perceptions of the events he describes.

Rubbish, the psychologist herself details in particular how she handled the claims of sexual abuse of K. (See her report to the court which Ron provided) Given what K told her, she doesn't consider what grandpa did to be sexual abuse. She left it there. For someone who considers herself an expert in child abuse she pays no mind to the clear evidence that children under report to strangers.

I think the therapist did just fine. I think the recommendations she made were appropriate. I think she acted in the interest of her clients, which were the kids.

I disagree.

Because, given the evidence Ron has given us from his own conversations with J.... he believes that she herself is a victim of abuse. Pedophiles don't tend to have just one victim and though K may have been the catalyst for stopping the behaviour in 2002, it was almost certainly not a sole event but followed a pattern up until that time, probably with young girls rather than boys.

Neither MK or Q were youngsters. They were both teenagers and well capable of forming opinions of their own.

Mary wrote:You seem to have uttedly demonized Ron to a strange degree, whilst seeing Jean as some kind of victimized Saint? What do you know that I don't?

There were 2 imperfect, fiery people in the marriage, not one.

Karren is the person who is speaking. He, therefore, is the only person we have a lot of real information about. These are all his claims. If the evidence he were providing weren"t providing evidence against him, then I would be listening to him more. I care about this subject. I believe there is an abuse problem in the church. Frankly, I even wish this added up. But it just doesn't.

It is just not true that it takes two imperfect people to cause these kinds of problems. Yes, all people are imperfect, and in most marriages the two imperfect people have to work together to see if they can make their differences work and develop a lasting, meaningful relationship despite them. There are some mental disorders, however, that can be present in only one member of a couple that make that philosophy false and repeating it to the person who does not have the disorder is even harmful because there are no actions the person without the disorder can take that will improve the situation. Karren's behaviors in the divorce and in the court system are indicative of the kinds of mental disorders that nullify the reasoning that it takes two to tango.

A long-term committed and even temple marriage to someone with certain disorders has a debilitating effect on the spouse who may also become more unwell over time and need treatment after escape from the marriage. The Mormon philosophy that one must stick it out to get to heaven where people will be made perfect does not help in these situations. It doesn't necessarily take two to cause the kind of tango-Ing we see in all these court records and in Karren's words about them.

The same argument could be reversed, and we could say that because there may be extremely dysfunctional abuse in the Mikelsen family, Karren was driven to this point of mental breakdown and this is the result. My problem with relying on that reasoning exclusively is that Karren seems to be taking so many actions that make whatever problems were there far worse. I therefore can't see him as the victim he claims to be. His actions align with the disorders that wreak toxic havoc in marriages, divorces, and the court room.

It is possible that this family is so messed up that there is multigenerational abuse and Karren has some comorbid conditions like narcissism and high-functioning autism (that often comes with anxiety and depression, too) and whatever ekse. And so what are we all supposed to do when we see the public manifestation in 2016? The best answer I have is to recommend care for the clear victims and Karren is not one of them (aside from the fact that it is not his fault if he has mental disorders). The clear victims are Karren's wife and daughter. If what Karren is claiming is true, then Karren's ex-wife not only has a terrible husband but a terrible father who would have sexually abused her too. If what Karren is claiming is false, she married a nightmare of a man. The worst. Poor woman!

I don't understand why we would look at this ugly situation and castigate his ex-wife unless we just hated believers and children of GAs. But I don't hate believers. I see them as victims of Mormonism. And it would be awful to be a member of some GA's family. Can you imagine? That environment must be so unwell. But at least it's a culturally acceptable unwell and therefore not indicative of some sort of mental dysfunctioning. That's easier to live around than coping with disorders like high-functioning autism or narcissism (or both) that blow things up like this. Add it all together (and plug in the sexual abuse because there doesn't seem to be any question the daughter was presexualized by someone) and look at the salad you get!

The victims need help.

Rosebud, I haven't posted here for a while, but prefer this venue on the whole to discuss this case. I have tried to pm you to wish you well with your studies, alas I seem to have forgotten how to do it.

I'll answer your last paragraph later. Like you, I have studies to be getting on with.

Mary wrote:Good grief RI is that your professional opinion.

Are you even listening fo Ron and the kids? The wife drops the daughter off with bags. Arrangements are made to move K out at Jean's request. Dad needs to get bigger House. Jean then changes her mind and attempts to put him in contempt of court via the lawyer. Come on. Please.

Why not start to believe or even take seriously Ron and all three of his kids? They experienced this.

This is what is damning in my eyes too. You can see by the theatrics of Jean and her attorney they were up to no good. It was staged to make Ron look like he was in contempt of court when he was taking full time custody of his daughter with Jean and the crooked lawyer's asking. To turn on him only two weeks later after he had gotten suitable housing for his daughter and her truckloads of furnishings, you can see how orchestrated their attempts were to lay him on the carpet. It wasn't a case of Jean changing her mind. She and her attorney both said she could not handle her daughter. That doesn't change in two weeks. Liars that they are.

Yes, agreed that this venue is a good place for this kind of discussion. Lots of space for people to have different perspectives. I don't come here unless there is something like this to talk about either, so didn't know you weren't posting regularly. Best of luck with your studies as well.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memory_implantation

Mary and AmyJo, y'all act like people can't be manipulated. It doesn't take much to implant a false memory, and then drive home the point. A child can start constructing false scenarios and then 'remember' them together with their groomer(s).

Children also lie. And sometimes they do it so convincingly people are killed over it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salem_witch_trials

I'll give you a personal example. Two months ago I brought my step-son home from IL after my spouse was informed by his father he didn't want him any more. The father had a new baby with his girlfriend, and apparently the child was prone to violent outbursts and various shenanigans. The father had this kid convinced he was troubled, prone to anxiety, suffered abuse and was triggered by everything, and was generally so screwed up he was pulled from school, hospitalized, in therapy, and on medication to 'manage his stress'. He was in the foster system before my spouse and her ex adopted him. So he already knows how to manipulate adults, lie, and most likely is a pro at something called Reactive Attachment Disorder.

So. The kid gets here two months ago. There have been some idiot moments, but for the most part he's a good kid. Within two months he's doing fine in school, eating right, off meds, done with therapy, and has lost around 12 lbs. He pitches in with chores, he studies with focus, and he's agreeable. He's fine.

The point? The influence a parent has over a kid is enormous. Just damned enormous, and it doesn't take a lot of time or effort to fundamentally impact a child's psyche.

From what I see Mr. Karren is a raging psychotic. It's no wonder he has or had his kids spun up. He's like a rabid pitbull when he's wronged. Just look at his postings. They're endless and relentless. This man isn't on a Joan of Arc crusade against Mormon pederasts. He's a spurned narcissist rampaging against his ex-wife and her family. He's trying to destroy them because they 'wronged' him. He's damned insane, and it shows if you just take a step back and look at it objectively.
