If he has autism, this might end if we can get everybody to ignore him. For a long time. No replies on his Facebook posts or new friend requests. We'd need to put him in about the position he's putting his daughter in. Anybody want to take that on ;)?

Why do you keep writing this. He has already stated unequivocally that his daughter wants him to do this, as do his sons. They want some kind of recognition that what Micklesen did was wrong. A small apology sincerely meant, an acknowledgement of guilt instead of blaming the victim.
How could Micklesen have handled this better. Focus on him.

I think you're trolling.

1. I have made the statement that I believe that it is possible that both Karren and Mikelsen could be guilty of child sexual abuse. I have made the statement that I think they could both be innocent and that this is all hokey and part of a divorce strategy. I do not know.

2. I have made the statement that regardless of either party's guilt or innocence regarding the child sexual abuse, I believe Karren was an abusive partner to his ex-wife based on the way he drew public attention to the private areas of her body and attempted to get the Internet to gossip about her. I have made the statement that I think that the way he is currently treating his daughter is abusive.

3. Karren has made the claim that his children want him to do this. I do not necessarily believe Karren's claims to be true. I have made the statement that if they are true, and his daughter has stated that she wants him to do this, I do not think she is old enough to give her full consent to something this big. Karren's public behaviors appear to be manipulative and I would assume that his behaviors towards his children are therefore manipulative. They many not know anything else. He may have manipulated them into being manipulative, etc. Family systems are complex.

I will also remind you that he said his daughter was going to come forward and tell her own story in three days and when the three days passed, we did not hear from her.

3. I have alluded to the fact that I think Karren needs treatment. I will make that statement directly now. Karren needs to seek treatment so that he can try to sort through his perceptions about his incentives and what his actual incentives may be.

4. I have made the statement that Karren is exhibiting symptoms of what might be high-functioning autism. I have made the statement that I of course do not know. I do not. I would like his family members to read my thoughts so they can google it and think about it. They will know if they get enough information regardless of whether or not Karren ever looks into it (this is a disorder that people who have can not necessarily easily perceive and many, especially older people who were not diagnosed as children, will deny they have any symptoms despite symptom severity).

My references to positive reinforcement and ignoring unwanted behaviors allude to a treatment method called Applied Behavior Analysis. It is very difficult to apply in a situation like this, but, since you asked, I will send his family in that direction because thinking about these concepts might give them some relief if he does indeed have high-functioning autism.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Applied_behavior_analysis
https://www.autismspeaks.org/what-autis ... alysis-aba

5. I would like Karren's daughter and ex-wife, if they are reading, to know that their perspective is recognized and spoken. This will help them in their abandonment.

6. I am angry that church leadership has not established effective child protection policies. I am angry that they foster an environment that creates a situation in which people who have been so hurt by Mormonism that they want revenge are willing to support someone who hurts his own daughter. Church leadership will be hearing from me sooner than they'd like.

7. This discussion is important. I have made the statement that I think it has needed to happen for three decades. I am angry that it has to happen at Karren's daughter's detriment. She is not a means to an end. She is an individual.

8. I am angry that children are devastatingly hurt and that facing this reality is so difficult that people will turn blind eyes and support the powerful people who do nothing to help them. I am angry that people don't want to talk about hard subjects. Well, this may be hard for adults to talk about, but it is only by talking about it that people can be educated enough to work together to take action to prevent children from facing these things alone.

9. I would like former Mormons to think about the fact that they may have a tendency to support someone whose ideological perspective is similar to their own. I gave an extreme example of a type of story some children report. I spoke of a bishop raping a child and then forcing the child to kill a kitten so the bishop could shame the child into silence and therefore ensure he would not be caught.

How can former Mormons expect Mormons to believe this might be true instead of a story a victim made up if they can not even accept that Karren may also be a perpetrator considering his actions in this case? It is possible he and Mikelsen worked together to abuse members of their family and then got into a fight. That may not be the case. We don't know. But if you can't accept that this may be a possibility, how do you expect believing Mormons to accept that Mikelsen might have done what Karren says he did or that their neighbor who is a cheerful, charismatic, dedicated bishop might have raped a child and forced the child to kill a kitten.

I've seen enough in life to be very cynical. You give Karren your easy trust because you share former Mormonism with him. I do not.

I would like Karren to apologize to his daughter and then do what he can to clean up the clutter he has spewed across the internet.

And while he's at it, his ex-wife deserves a public apology too.

I have been reading this board for some years, and I have never seen a thread like this one before.

It's not so much the subject matter that I find strange, but the huge amount of energy that is being invested in giving advice to members of the family under discussion, condemning or commending their various actions, diagnosing their medical condition, demanding that they issue statements of various kinds, even proposing that 'we' should all get together and undertake various forms of action in relation to this family, and so on and so forth.

It's weird. It's gone way beyond anything that could be considered reasonable and normal. It seems to me to have reached a stage where it is hard not to characterize what is happening here as an unhealthy obsession. When (if ever) will it end?

Forget the public shaming of anyone.

This needs to be dealt with privately for the sake of the daughter.

If Ron needs to do a tell all, he needs to write it in a book, and then market it. It's already saturated the social network online.

So that is here to stay ad infinitum.

I am concerned for the daughter who deserves her privacy even if Ron needs to do this to get it in the public realm. He has accomplished that already. I don't see the need to delve into every sordid detail of his divorce or the fingering of his daughter's genitals by her grandfather to satisfy the whoremongers clamoring for more to satiate their curiosity.

Nor do I believe for one second that Ron is autistic. You have unfairly maligned him to make him look worse than he is. That is defamation too, and you're responsible for that.

No one in the helping sciences would assign such a characteristic to Ron because he is openly outing his ex-FIL and the GA.

Your so-called diagnosis sounds like an armchair psychologist who just labelled him whatever you picked out of a hat, but it makes no sense whatsoever.

He does not behave as an autistic in any sense of the word, high functioning or otherwise.

Nor does hie display Asberger's Syndrome, which is a higher functioning form of Autism, to which you didn't even hit on.

Just pure defamatory and inflammatory on your part. Kylee has lost her mother already. Don't contribute to her losing her father because of your biases.

She will read this someday. You owe her an apology.

I suspect it will end when Ron stops posting. Or when the people who are actively discussing the story get tired of it.

I'm not surprised by the discussion at all. It's taking place in the context of the pedophilia scandals in the Catholic church, where religious authorities knew of child molesters and reacted by shuffling them around to different parishes. The story that's being told sounds similar -- general authorities are alerted to allegations of pedophilia against one of their own and they shuffle him off to Mexico. We also know of documented cases of the LDS church badly handling reports of child molestation. And we have people here who were molested and experienced denial and cover up by the LDS church. Add to that the way the story is being told -- in semi-weekly releases like the old pulp serials. Why would you be surprised that people would devote a significant amount of thought and words to discussing the story?

There is no shame in having a developmental disorder. Life gets better when people acknowledge high-functioning autism and get the help they need. Family members of adults with high-functioning autism are fairly desperate. (Google Asperger's and high-functioning autism for more information about the history of the two names of the diagnosis.) I have been clear that I have no idea about Karren and that I have never met him.

Anyone who makes the decision to write a blog and publicize things like Karren has publicized opens him or herself to public criticism and can not claim victimhood for public analyses of character. Look at the dates. Karren's attack of others' precipitates the attacks he receives. This is why the dates and sequence of the documents he releases are important.

I have said terrible things about what Karren might have done that are shameful even though a developmental disorder is not. I have also made it clear that I don't know. None of us do.

That fact that we don't know and that victims need the public to be educated in order to be protected is the point.

If anything good comes from this, it will be education and prevention.

Indeed. Under those circumstances, the enthusiasm and energy you are willing to spend on

does seem a little disproportionate to any good you may be doing.

I have a working hypothesis about how Ron's story developed, but I need to test it against documentation he has yet to disclose.

Tell that to the local bishop and his wife who have written me at least twice! I have been to an LDS church 3x in the last year, and as far as I know I am still a member on paper. Don't be so quick to box me. As I have already said to you ad nauseum, for me this has become about policies and procedures and how they can be improved so that the victim is a priority. K wasn't a priority for Micklesen or for the church leaders who labelled her subsequently.
