I still think that from a standing position the kick from the 12 gauge would knock me on my personal ass vs the AR-15. I think the AR-15 is heavier, isn't it? That said, I still think that I would have more control over the AR-15.

You ARE absolutely correct.
The CCC has tried to say his "44 Mag" has more of a kick than a 12 Gauge Shotgun, and he would be utterly false.
A 12 Gauge Pistol grip will cause massive pain to the hand, or as a long gun massive pain to the shoulder.
More muscle, stronger grips, more solid grips/support etc. will "mitigate the pain, and you'll also get better, stronger, more used to it etc. through use, but the first video I posted doesn't "lie".

In contrast, the 44 Mag has some kick, but it's not going to "hurt" your hand like a shotgun will.
It truly fascinates me the depth people go in support of their utterly false, but more so completely easily provable false positions.
The second video I posted, she was a more experienced shooter, but not with a shotgun, and she completely missed the target even though she was trying to aim.

The AR-15 is good at ANY distance, and for ANY shooter, even a child.
The Shotgun, is ONLY any good at very short distance, and it essentially takes an experienced shooter to shoot it, for it to actually be effective.
There are videos online of kids at home protecting themselves and family from intruders with their dads AR-15. But you NEVER hear a story of a kid doing so with a "shotgun". Only fools think shotguns are the best all around self-defense weapon. That's severely OLD and flawed thinking.

A 20 Gauge however could be effective, especially if loaded with "Slug" rounds, or "larger" pellets (a.k.a. Buckshot (larger the better) ), only like 6-10 or something. Though, the most effective still would be the 12 Gauge due to the stopping power behind it, but then you're back to all it's limitations. So, overall, smart people have been going with AR-15 and similar type weapons for home defense, hunting, etc. It's an All Around gun.... yet liberals want to ban the best type of gun for individual usage.

Anyway..... Just crazy crazy crazy.

Problem is, in attempting to backtrack his initial claim in an op-ed he clarified what he meant is that there is no medical evidence that smoking causes lung cancer.

I think it largely has to do with training. If you have someone show you how to hold the 12-ga, and how you need to stand, the kick is pretty manageable even for a small-framed individual.

When I was younger, my friend's dad would take us out shooting regularly. One of the guns he had was a 7 round semi-auto 12-ga. My friend's sisters would often come along too. The youngest of the girls couldn't have been more than 90 lbs at the time, and she'd handle that 12-ga like a champ. Granted, she could only fire two rounds in rapid succession though before she had to replant her feet and re-shoulder the 12-ga.

While not nearly as dainty as a lot of women, I was probably about 150 lbs when I first started using a 12-ga with my dad and brothers up above the alfalfa fields to thin out jackrabbits.

If it did knock you on your ass though, chances are it did more than just knock your target on its ass. ;)

I'm not getting into what is better for self defence, but while 12 gauge can have a lot of recoil, especially with slugs or mag loads, if you are having "massive pain" you're holding it wrong.

In contrast, the 44 Mag has some kick, but it's not going to "hurt" your hand like a shotgun will.

These are the words of someone who has likely never fired a full power 44 mag load.

The advantage of a shot gun vs a rifle or handgun is that in a home a shotgun buckshot blast really won't injure family members on the other side of a wall, where a bullet will easily go through a few sheet rock walls if it doesn't hit something solid. Less likely hood of accidently killing a family member.

If recoil is a concern go to a 20 Guage or such with #6 buckshot.

I think there's also something psychologically frightening about the sound of a shotgun pump that isn't quite the same as the "click" of other guns chambering a round or cocking.

I'd much rather stand at the top of the stairs, and threaten an intruder with the sound of a shotgun and some foreboding words, than have to actually chance a face-to-face encounter.**
