mentalgymnast wrote:Huh? What does this have to do with the MoTabs performing at the Inaugural? I know in the Provo 4th of July Parade we can see the missionaries from the MTC march down the parade route...in their white shirts, no less...but not being preachy. Are you saying that the MoTabs are going to actively be preachy in 'in your face' as they perform at the Inaugural? They've been well received in the past.
Any reason to think they can't add to the spirit of the occasion this time around?

It's the Mormon Tabernacle choir, I have no problem if they go as individual citizens without representing a religion.
You think most Americans would like Satanic chorus at the inauguration? or even a catholic choir singing at the virgin Mary? Don't tell me the Mormon Tabernacle choir is going to sing secular hymns. Just bull.
Not only that, there is overwhelming evidence that Trump presidency is going to be a disaster, but the Mormon Tabernacle choir is basically celebrating a Trump presidency. My A$$ I bet the Mormon Tabernacle choir wouldn't sing for a openly gay president.
mentalgymnast wrote:Is the "Battle Hymn" too much for you? C'mon. Oh, it looks like they might sing, "This Is My Country".
Chill, dude.

"Christ was born across the sea," Yes! Why not Allah! or Lord Brahma? or Satan? and the Battle Hymn was in 1980, now the LDS church is way more political.
I wouldn't be surprised if they sing "I believe in Christ" LOL

The Church isn't paying their travel expenses?
Staggering.

I think I agree with Scott Lloyd, that when the Choir keys up to sing "Praise to the Man who communes with Vladimir Putin..." it will represent a proud moment for Mormons.

Choyo Chagas is Chairman of the Big Four, the ruler of the planet from "The Bull's Hour" ( Russian: Час Быка), a social science fiction novel written by Soviet author and paleontologist Ivan Yefremov in 1968. Six months after its publication Soviet authorities banned the book and attempted to remove it from libraries and bookshops.

I would not be the slightest bit surprised if that were the case, nor would I put it past Trump to actually make such threats if they refused to perform.
No precept or claim is more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

I agree with what Ben Parks has said about this travesty here.
Ben Parks wrote:I am disappointed and disgusted that the Mormon Tabernacle Choir has agreed to sing at Donald Trump’s inauguration. Those events are a celebration of the incoming president, not merely of the country, and the claim that the move promotes national unity overlooks the fact that Trump ran a campaign centered on the degradation of women, vilification of immigrants, and oppression of minorities. This is not an inauguration for either of the Bushes or Reagan, who were messengers of a particular political stance, or even of a Mike Pence, who is even more extreme in politics but lacks many of Trump’s fascist ills. Rather, it is an inauguration for a man who spews racist garbage, brags about abusing women, and boasts about a Muslim registry. This act makes the Church’s appeals for religious liberty, gender equality, and international peace prove hollow.
To my friends who have been the direct targets of Trump’s attacks: even though the Mormon Tabernacle Choir is a missionary arm for the LDS Church, I hope you know that their appearance at Trump’s inauguration does not reflect my values or interests, nor many of my friends and family within the Mormon tradition. On behalf of our Church, we apologize.

Philo, Any chance you could use the "Quote" function?
It would make reading your posts in which you quote others much clearer.

I apologize. I also changed the "ends justify the means". I had a dyslexic brain fart LOL. I'm on my mobile pad and the quote function is really weird I'm trying to figure it out but I am an electronic moron.
