Yeah, I noticed that on the first viewing. 'Twas a nice nostalgic throwback.

It wasn't an actor in Episode IV. The film crew that hauled the equipment down to Guatemala to pick up the shots just used one of their crew members. Don't know if they got the same guy for Rogue One.

Judging from your follow-up comment, it looks like my brother was wrong and it wasn't the same guy. Oh well.

They didn't use David Prowse to be Darth Vader's actor. That would've added legitimacy to the show.

David Prowse is persona non grata at Lucasfilm these days, so it probably wasn't going to happen.

Right, but since Disney bought LucasFilm, I thought for sure that George Lucas's personal grudges would be ignored by the new owners.

By all accounts, the final movie was massively different from the original script and shooting (the original trailer has many shots that didn't make it to the final film). So it's possible the peripheral characters had more to do originally.

You're a Hollywood insider, so have you heard what the reason was behind the reshoots? If so, will you give it to me?

Princess Leia did claim in Episode IV that the Empire could track the Millenium Falcon through hyperspace, so if they got a beacon on the Tantive IV, they could have tracked it.

It was clear from the film that no Imperials ever boarded the Tantive IV before it departed, unlike when the Millenium Falcon was docked at the Death Star and the Imperials had plenty of time to crawl around it and affix a homing beacon.

My biggest problem was the Tantive IV being there in the first place (and inside the other ship?) That makes Vader's first interaction with Leia in Episode IV non-sensical.

I agree. Several transmissions were not beamed to "this ship" by rebel spies.

Luke was in a Snowspeeder, which may have had much less powerful "blasters" than an X-Wing or other ship. Now kids can ask "Why didn't they use X-wings on Hoth when they knew how good they were against AT-AT's from the Rogue One battle, and from The Force Awakens and Rogue One that X-Wings can fly really well and do battle near a planet's surface?"

So we're back where we started (with all due respect).

Have you noticed that no women participate in discussions about Star Wars arcana? This topic seems to be the electronic equivalent of the Comic Book store on The Big Bang Theory.

Jesse Pinkman has been known to do so on occasion.

A co-worker pointed out that those weren't AT-ATs in Rogue One, but AT-ACTs:

So they may have had different armor design. Or the Empire might have upgraded them in the years between Rogue 1 and ESB.

As for Wedge the story seems to be that since he's apparently seeing the Death Star for the first time in Episode IV ("Look at the size of that thing...!"), they thought it wouldn't make sense if he had just seen it a few days earlier at Scarif.

Ahh, that makes sense. Thanks!

That's a good point; I hadn't thought of it. But that still leaves us with the unacceptable absences of Biggs and Porkins.

Biggs was still on Tatooine. He had been at the Imperial Academy and hadn't jumped ship to join the Rebellion yet. Apparently he does so during the events of Episode IV in time to join the battle at the end.

Don't know about Porkins.

DUH!! :-( It was right there in the deleted scenes that I had been well aware of for years. I'm feeling pretty stupid that I forgot about it.

Don't know about Porkins.

Two down, one to go. Good job, cinepro. :-) But Porkins's absence was the most egregious oversight, since I'm sure you'll agree that he was the most important of the non-Luke Rebel pilots.

I think he was part of a set, but you recall that he finally got his own action figure some years back, right?

They had a marathon this weekend on the original trilogy and I watched "A New Hope" again. Always takes me back to my childhood and I love it for that. However, after watching Rogue 1 recently, it has sort of ruined "A New Hope" for me a little. Mainly with respect to light saber fighting/duels. The prequels completely changed light saber duels (in an awesome way), and ever since then, I've looked at the originals a little differently since their fight sequences aren't nearly what the newer movies have put together. I guess I had kind of forgotten about it, until Rogue 1 resurrected the issue for me. The ending of Rogue 1, where Vader is rolling through the rebel ship going after the plans is straight up bad ass! Then this weekend I watched Vader fight old Obi-wan - both just standing there tapping their sticks together......and I was just sad. I wish there was some way to just redo those scenes.

Rejoice! An enterprising YouTuber did just that. He added music and sped it up a bit. See:

There's also the "Revisited" version which is what the Special Edition really should have been. Here's the duel:

I don't know if he re-edited it or sped it up, but he added music and redid the coloring on the lightsabers to bring it more in line with the other films.
