Such preening pedanticism is the very genesis of liberal thought, with the infantilizing nanny state being its manifestation. We do not imagine liberals drenched in sweat so much as we're concerned that their haughty intellects keep them naïvely dry and prevent them from experiencing normal human levels of perspiration. The complications that arise from the ambitious utopian goals of managing people's lives is precisely what we fear and in our humility so desperately wish to avoid.
Oh, it's not a matter of seeing yourself as smart, it's a matter of emotional makeup. Some people like complexity, just like some people like living in a diverse environment, and some people prefer stark differences and sticking with their own. If you want to internalize this as someone calling you dumb, I regret that you walk around with such a burdensome inferiority complex.
And, for what it's worth, you may want to go back and read some Plato. Liberals did not invent ambitious utopian goals. They are baked into the Western tradition. It's good to remind people who worship casually at the font of Ayn Rand, telling themselves that if we simply leave the thinking to the wealthy, everything will turn out great.
