Though I did drink plenty when I was younger which is why I really don't drink alcohol. See how that works? ;-) I did drink champagne about 7 years ago.
To be honest. I don't feel any need to drink alcohol and I think that (with the possible exceptions of beer and champagne) all the rest of it tastes like total crap. Oh and I don't care to hear about how "Oh, then you've never had my Sangria recipe".
Believe me when I tell you, I've pretty much tried it all. Which is why I don't really drink alcohol.
;-)
I agree with your opinion of the taste of alcoholic beverages. Out of curiosity I have tasted various alcoholic beverages during my life, including wine, whiskey, beer and vodka. One sip of each was enough to convince me that they taste bad to my taste. Most people whom I have met who drink have admitted, when asked, that it is an acquired taste, and they didn't particularly enjoy their first taste of it. Why should I go to the trouble and expense of acquiring a taste for something so expensive, potentially problematic and addictive that I didn't initially like? That makes little or no sense to me!
I admit that I never tasted champagne, though, so I can't attest that I don't like how that tastes. There is a kind of beer that I like, though. I acquired a taste for Danish hvitøl (which literally translates to "white beer", even though it is black as coal) during my two and a half years living in Denmark. It is a sweet tasting near beer with very little to no alcohol in it. It is the Danish equivalent of root beer, though it tastes nothing like it. Real American root beer is almost impossible to find in Denmark. Few Danes (including my new Danish son-in-law) can stand American root beer when they get a rare opportunity to try it.
As I said in my previous post (as edited before you responded to it), what really hits the spot for me on a hot day is a nice, cold, nonalcoholic smoothie! There are other times, though, when nothing seems to fit the bill better than a nice, tall, ice cold glass of pure water.
