His tweet came within minutes of Fox News running a piece on Kim Jong Un's original button comment. We're inching toward nuclear holocaust because slightly less than half the country voted for your crazy, opinonated uncle who is way too into right-wing news.

What did he miss it the first time was reported? This is getting all too real.

Congress.

Congress is complicit; however, so nope, no one. Not until November in any case.

Nonsense!
Congress is complicit? Nonsense EA!

Fortunately (if that word could possibly appear in this discussion) the United States of America requires more - much more - than an individual person (including a sitting President that thinks he's posting anonymously on a discussion board) to hit the nuclear button.

That aside though, where is his team of advisors? Good gawd!

Ironically, I was watching youtube last night listening to Churchhill's "on the beaches" speech (because I'm interested in seeing "Darkest Hour") and noted how elegant his speech was.

Two days into 2018 and I'm seeing a President whose behavior more closely resembles a hormonal middle school student directly effing around with our nation's safety and security.

He's playing pissing contest with the nuclear arsenal, folks. How much more evidence does anyone need that leading our country is an unstable reckless chaos-creating narcissist?

Day TWO of 2018! I had peace in my head for like 2 seconds.

I wonder if John Kelly can ever say to the President "What is the purpose of the tweet? What did it accomplish? How will it further the non-violent resolution of the crisis?"

I don't think there will be a nuclear war with North Korea, but Trump really does not seem adverse to the idea.

Well, unlike Trump, at least you are just an anonymous bozo posting your nonsense on a discussion board.

The President has unilateral authority to launch a nuclear attack. If his (or her) order is authenticated, then the only thing stopping it is someone who is trained never to disobey the order to disobey orders. It's about as simple as metaphorically pressing a button otherwise.

That shouldn't be the only thing you are thinking of though. The problem with this kind of rhetoric is that there is someone on the other side also having to calculate when a nuclear response is justified and this kind of rhetoric heightens the odds of a miscalculation that ignites a nuclear attack. Maybe the US accidentally shoots down a N. Korean plane and, based on threat assessment, N. Korea decides that all out first strike is the best worst option left.

Congress has the power to remove Trump from office. You can technically impeach for almost anything, but Trump in particular already has several damning reasons for impeachment that could've brought down past presidents that there simply isn't political will to act on yet.

Trump could be declared mentally unfit for office via the 25th amendment, but that ultimately would require the same amount of Congressional approval that impeachment and removal would take.

If you move to less drastic measures than removing him from office, Congress could try to box in Trump by threatening to go after his corrupt use of public office to advance his businesses. He might be responsive to that. Since it's being let go anyway, Republicans theoretically could condition their lax approach on a baseline of behavior from Trump that doesn't include nuclear saber rattling on Twitter. Congress has a fair amount of power on this front that they're just choosing not to exercise. It's one reason why things will get nuts if Democrats do take one of the chambers of Congress this year.
