Well, your credibility is definitely shot. Let's work backwards:

1)Tom is not the OP of this thread, I am.

2)Subsequent to the OP, you never pointed out I "perversely failed to quote Peterson's statements accurately." It would have been nonsensical to do so, because in my OP, I noted that Peterson starts with 2 Wikipedia quotes, and then I quoted the rest of his blog entry, fully and completely, which I show he plagiarized from Radin.

and last, the weirdest one of all,

3) Who is "Board," and when did "Board" start anything??

Accuracy is really not your thing, Yahoo.

I just received my new book (late Christmas present) that Peterson plagiarized by Robert J. Hutchison, "Searching for Jesus." I shall read, and then return and report.

I have a question wrote:

You’ve been desperately trying to make this “hastily taken notes” thing fly a few times on this thread. I believe Lemmie has demonstrated previously that such a claim is untenable, the plageriasim has taken effort.

Notwithstanding that.

What did your friend say when you put that suggestion to him?
(A genuine person would say “You’re dead right, good suggestion, I’ll do that from now on” and mean it. But the fact that he has issued previous Mea Culpa’s and the behaviour hasn’t changed, is suggestive that he isn’t really sorry about it, just upset he’s been caught. Again.)

Actually, that is EXACTLY what he said. (“You’re right; good suggestion.”)And it is why he is going through trying to correct things now.
So you're chasing around a fly and in your world, I'm the idiot?

The passive nature of these excuses for Peterson's plagiarism is mind-boggling. Plagiarism is not a mugger who you can try to avoid by staying away from dark streets, nor is it like being pick-pocketed where you can't find your wallet and you wonder "what just happened?"

my suggestion was to stay away from writing anything where the subject matter contains hastily taken notes from other authors.

The "subject matter" does NOT "contain hastily taken notes," an evil situation from which Peterson needs to "stay away," Peterson just needs to STOP posting unattributed material and stealing other people's intellectual property.

Going forward, I would definitely suggest that Dan stays away from topics that he has little or limited knowledge of in order to avoid getting caught in this kind of serious trap again.
It was NOT his lack of knowledge that lead him down a path where, unbeknownst to him, the "serious trap" awaited him, he just needs to STOP stealing other people's intellectual property.

Yes, he is a Professor. But not a Professor of formal writing. Is this an excuse? I never said it was. All I did was point out his possible mindset,...
His mindset lacking "Professor of formal writing" training is NOT what led him to this 'trap,' the fault is with his mindset that thinks stealing other people's intellectual property is acceptable, and that thinks calling it unintentional when he gets caught is a solution.

If this is, indeed the case, then he needs to study the rules of all of this a lot more intently before writing articles that contain notes from other authors.

He attended BYU, and he has been a professor there for decades. The rules are NOT that complicated, and intense study is NOT necessary to avoid plagiarism.

I'm not saying there can't be inadvertent or unintentional cases of plagiarism, what I am saying is that in this case, the evidence does not indicate that. There have been many, many examples of his carefully crafted plagiarism fully documented, across a wide span of time, and across multiple venues and pieces of writing.

Lemmie wrote:from the links Tom gave:
Several paragraphs in that column erroneously failed to use quotation marks to properly attribute their source as an article written for the New York Times by Adam Grant. Grant's article was directly referenced at the opening and close of the Eyres' column.

So, even though the Grant article was referenced at the beginning and end of the column, the Deseret News considers that the lack of quotation marks within the column indicated a failure to properly attribute the source.

The Deseret News demands accuracy in attribution and sourcing. We require our columnists to submit articles that are original and accurate in content and style. The Eyres have acknowledged the seriousness of this error and have assured us this was an inadvertent oversight.

Inadvertent, in that unlike Peterson's approach, after the plagiarism was noticed, the plagiarism didn't happen again and again and again?
Given the seriousness of this mistake we have taken the following steps. We have removed the column from DeseretNews.com. The Deseret News and the Eyres have formally apologized to the New York Times and Mr. Grant. Finally, we are conducting further review of this incident and our processes.

We offer sincere apologies to both The New York Times and Mr. Grant.
So the seriousness of the mistake requires 1) the column being removed, 2) a formal apology to the plagiarized author and their publisher, and 3) further review.

Clearly Peterson doesn't deal with reports of his own plagiarism this professionally, but one would assume that his columns in the DesNews surely must be held to their standard.

So far, there have not been examples presented from Deseret News regarding DCP’s work there. Cam claims to have 5 examples. I wouldn’t mind seeing what he found.

You know, for someone who is supposedly in Mr. Peterson's corner, and has repeatedly told us to knock it off lest we hurt his career, you certainly aren't averse to goading me into providing damning examples of his plagiarism committed in sevice of Deseret News.

I'm trying to speak to Mr. Peterson through our forum, and in a not so direct way tell him to get his crap fixed before someone does it for him by suspending his rear end.

These two examples are more severe than what the Eyres were caught doing.

And, might I add, there are many, MANY more examples in the D-News of Daniel C. Peterson's plagarism.
"I'm on paid sabbatical from BYU in exchange for my promise to use this time to finish two books."

How is he supposed to know which articles that need to be fixed unless you at least reference them? At this point, the damage is done. If, as Everybody Wang Chung indicated, there are several members of BYU faculty watching this site, then reporting what they choose to have happen is likely already underway. At this point, if Dan has one place where these references are mentioned, he at least has the opportunity to fix what is there.
