It's strange to me how good Romney looks compared to other Republicans these days. Remarkable.
I wonder, should he get the seat, how long it will take for him to go Drumpf sycophant.

Makes me wonder if Romney noticed the polls that indicate Utahans, and Mormons in particular, favor Trump.

It's good to see him take a dig at Trump. Hatch was a poor senator who just went with the party line. The best politicians in my opinion are those more willing to stand up to their own party. The one problem I see was his attempt to be Trump's SOS, but I suspect he would be more willing then other candidates to criticize and stand up to Trump and others.

Mormons like Trump a little less than the median Republican according to polling data. Part of that might be they are more principled about him being everything their religion says is wrong, but a bigger part probably is Romney's mild tension with him.
Romney is to Mormons what Obama is to black people. Romney losing Utah would be far more stunning than Doug Jones winning Alabama.

When Romney left his dinner with President-elect Trump, didn't he say that Trump was the right man for this job?

Pretty much:
Mr. Romney, who was invited to the dinner purportedly for a follow-up interview for the job of secretary of state, described it as a “wonderful evening” and said that he was “impressed” with Mr. Trump’s handling of his upset victory in the election.
“We had another discussion about affairs throughout the world and these discussions I’ve had with him have been enlightening, and interesting, and engaging,” Mr. Romney, the 2012 Republican presidential nominee, told reporters outside the restaurant.
Mr. Romney said that from what he’s seen of Mr. Trump’s leadership during the transition, he was optimistic that “America’s best days are ahead of us.”
“He did something I tried to do and was unsuccessful in. He won the general election and he continues with a message of inclusion and bringing people together and his vision is something which obviously connected with the American people in a very powerful way,” said Mr. Romney.
“I think you’re going to see America continue to lead the world in this century. And what I’ve seen through these discussions I’ve had with President-elect Trump, as well as what we’ve seen in his speech the night of his victory, as well as the people he’s selected as part of his transition, all of those things combined give me increasing hope that President-elect Trump is the very man who can lead us to that better future,” he said.

Trimble, you ignorant sack of rhinoceros puss. The only thing more obvious than your lack of education is the foul stench that surrounds you.

I would expect if anyone knows Trump they know you have to praise him in order to manipulate him into giving you want you want. If Romney had known Trump a little better he would have known his interest in Romney being a SOS was not sincere and I would bet was done only to get him to grovel at Trump's feet for being his biggest critic in the republican party. I still think he may be the one to stand up to Trump better then other probable candidates for senator. I think Trump knows this and wanted Hatch to run for another term.

Judging from Romney's remarks, would you say that Trump indeed got what he wanted?
