Visit your nearest VA hospital and clinics. See how you might be of service to those who gave service. Sometimes a cup of coffee and a little conversation go a long way.

You can greet the veterans at the door, help them to and from their cars, drive the little golf carts through the hallways in the big hospitals to take the less ambulatory. They need volunteers but you will have to get a background check and put up with really crappy parking. I recommend it. It's for the former troops. Nothing spectacular. Just pure love of country and your fellow American.

The DAV and American Legion and VFW often have projects you can help with. Same with the Marine Corps League.

If only there was some way to know what type of parade Trump has been asking for since before his inauguration...

...like I wrote earlier, there is nothing Trump can say or do that you will not bust his balls for.

This isn't true, but it's hard to respond to a baseless assertion of reflexive bias.

Do you have to win a war to honor are Troops?

You compared this parade to the one in 1991 that was specifically meant for celebrating a military victory in the Persian Gulf War.

Go to Walter Reed and tell those guys they should not be honored.

Lol.

Is that why you don't want a parade? Or is it Trump? Too much money...why do you think it is a bad idea to honor the Troops?

People are people, and there has always been ego's and corruption in our military and always will. Unfortunately, many leaders fail. There is a line with politicians and our military leaders that is fine...and we need a balance there...when the balance is broken that is when we have problems...like post WW2 with Truman and MacArthur, or Vietnam with Johnson/Nixon and their Generals...as examples.

There is nothing I can say that will change your mind.

Do you see anywhere where I say we should not honor the troops? Do you? No. So why are you putting that in my mouth, Markk? Is a lie the best you've got?

I'm saying this is cheap patriotism and a cheap demonstration of supporting the troops. You defending a draft dodger who thinks that he can fake his way to manhood by surrounding himself with uniforms. That's about him, Markk. I don't know what TV shows you've watched and really don't think they're relevant in the least to what we're talking about.

I will change my mind when I see a reason to. You're the one refusing to engage. You're the one making an unconditional defense of every impulse that comes out of the mouth of this man. You're the one who thinks we should all be obeying the whims of a lying fraud and calling it "honoring the troops". You're making a dishonorable pussy grabbing draft dodging adulterous narcissist your moral center. Good job.

This thread reads like an absurdist comedy routine. What is there to say to someone who responds to, "Here is what Trump said, 'I want a parade like the one in France only bigger'" with, "Why do you think the Troops don't deserve a parade?" over and over and over again?

Maybe Donald Trump wants a military parade that celebrates when the French army sided with the Republic against monarchy in the French revolution.

A highlight of my trip to Paris was seeing the bullet holes in the national assembly building.

Trump is conflated with "the troops" or any other thing in the amorphous infinitely plastic universe of Markk & Co as required to keep Fox News in the foreground.

More presidential than Washington. More presidential than Jefferson. More presidential than either of the Roosevelts. More presidential than Ike. More presidential than Reagan.

I keep forgetting we're supposed to take Trump figuratively but seriously rather than literally but not seriously...or whatever the code was for ignoring what he actually says in favor of whatever one wants to have heard him say.
