Character is what you do when no one is watching

Post by _MeDotOrg »

Joe Biden took his granddaughter to the movies last night. On the way out Biden stopped to talk with a homeless man. A bystander took this photo.

In my mind, I keep hearing Ivanka Trump's story about walking with her father outside of Trump Tower, passing by a homeless man. The self proclaimed King of Debt complained that the guy had 8 billion dollars more than he did.

Only Donald Trump could look at a homeless man and make the story about himself.

Except someone was watching?

I like Bidden, he seems like the kinda guy you could have a beer with, and my hope is it was a teaching moment for his grand daughter..good for him. But to somehow say that this is reflective of either one of these guys hearts and charitable giving is not really viable.

You have no idea if Trump gives without anyone knowing, and my guess is that Biden knew that he was on camera, he is a pro...I bet his security did for sure. Did Biden donate his salary to charity?

Biden is not stupid in business, like Trump they take advantage of money opportunities. I read, and if true, Biden charged rental to the goverment for rental of his guest house for his government paid security detail while VP? In other words, he made money on is security detail.

Trump and his companies have given millions, as far as the heart goes who really knows but Trump.

As very little if any of that money is Trump's but is instead the dollars of others filtered through his organization, then I'm sure that all of these donations furthered the aims of corruption and illegal power exclusively, just like with the Clinton Foundation. ; )

I'm not too cynical to appreciate the gesture, regardless of the motivation behind it.

And with Biden...I agree. But to say Trump does not personally help others is unknowable. People that wake up in the morning looking for faults in Trump...will never accept that he has a heart.

Are Trump's gesture for charity equally appreciable...regardless of his motivation?

But I think Biden was doing a good thing from his heart, at least I hope so, as I do with much of the charity Trump and some of the other Washington scallywags.

Yeah, spontaneous photo right...just at the right moment....because Biden does still has secret service detail, and walks the streets in such anonymity that he feels just like a regular Joe....just solving that homeless guy's problems with whatever he had in his pocket....what a guy!

regular creepy Joe.

Not all things are completely knowable. But we can know a great deal about some things.

https://www.newyorker.com/news/john-cas ... ble-giving

From the article:

Trump’s charitable giving has now become a campaign issue, largely due to a series of Post articles written by David Fahrenthold and his colleagues. Back in April, Fahrenthold and Rosalind S. Helderman reported that they couldn’t find a single cash donation to charity that Trump personally had made over the previous five years. The Trump campaign had provided the newspaper with a list of donations made by the candidate, but many turned out to be gifts-in-kind from Trump’s businesses, such as free rounds of golf at Trump courses donated to charity auctions, and land-conservation agreements to forgo development rights on Trump-owned properties. The only cash donations were from the Donald J. Trump Foundation, the family charity that Trump established in 1988. But the Post also pointed out that Trump hadn’t given any of his own money to the Trump Foundation since 2008—almost all of its funding came from other people, including some of his business associates.

The Post has delivered other revelations. At the end of August, Fahrenthold reported that the Trump Foundation had violated tax laws in 2013 by making a $25,000 political donation to Pam Bondi, the attorney general of Florida. At the time the donation was made, Bondi had been considering whether to launch an investigation of the scandal-plagued Trump University. Democrats accused Trump of having tried to buy off Bondi, but Bondi denied that there was any connection between the campaign donation and her decision not to pursue an investigation. Regardless, charities aren’t allowed to make political donations. Trump’s aides said the payment from the foundation was the result of an administrative error, and that the money was supposed to have come from Trump’s personal account. Earlier this year, the foundation paid a $2,500 penalty to the I.R.S.

A few of my personal "favorites."

The number one would be the account that Trump bragged about in one of his books, and that would continue to make the rounds regularly. That is until the guy who somehow had access to Trump (in order to ask for this favor) ended up indicted for heading up a scheme to profit off the deaths of Jewish children. (**ETA Below)

The runner up (for me) would be when he crashed a charity event for a group that he had never donated to, stole a seat of honor from a top charity donor on the podium, did some photo ops, and then boned out. Link.

And of course: Forbes - How Donald Trump Shifted Children's Cancer Money Into His Own Business
