The church is already spinning this story in this news release so that they come off as a mere innocent third party having done nothing worng. Nothing will come from this...to think other wise is just wishful thinking.

In other words, there could be an issue about his competence. But it could also be something else. Seems like room for a little hesitation.
Perhaps the glee with some are celebrating here may be a bit premature. It very well could be as bad as it seems, and given what we have, it certainly merits a thorough investigation. But there's not enough yet to draw conclusions.

He acknowledged on tape that the interview was being recorded, so I’d assume he consented. I suspect the attempt to change the consent statute was aimed more at secret recordings of disciplinary councils or speakers.

As it stands, a somewhat ambiguous recording of an interview where one party is anonymous won't be enough in itself for a story.
