Odds are that Bishop isn’t the only MP that crossed the line with sister missionaries.

Thanks to the Tribune for doing actual Journalism.

Apologies to the accuser for my skepticism on the off chance she visits this board.

Have you seen the 80s interview with the Dean of Women at Weber State? She quotes him as threatening to lie, etc...

With the information at hand, he appears to be a predatory narcissist. Nice, humble-taking old guy? Yup, they can look like that to most people, even their sons.

Trib interview with woman’s bishop confirms she told him in 1987, and he dismissed it for seeming “farfetched.” Oy.

The bishop, who asked not to be named, said in an interview with The Tribune that he didn’t believe her, nor did he tell any superiors. ”I felt the allegations were groundless,” he recalled this week. “They were so farfetched and not internally logical.” It takes a lot of vetting for a man to be approved for a position like MTC president, the Mormon lay leader said, “which made her story very hard to believe.”

I hope other women take courage and come forward. The affinity sexual assault problem, if there is one, needs to be addressed and now is as good a time to come forward as any.

As a way to demonstrate the historical depth of the grooming, I want to share an example I observed while a student at BYU.

TRIGGER WARNING: SEXUAL ABUSE

There was a man in Utah who had his legal wife and three daughters in Vegas on the weekends, but lived in Utah during the week "for work." He lived with a woman and her several children, their mother as his second wife.

Their father wanted to stay in their lives but this man scared him off with death threats.

The kids grew up under his abusive dictates and while he claimed their sister as his additional "spiritual wife" when she was 11 years old, raping her on a regular basis.

By the time she was 19, her older brothers had returned from missions and started their families. By this point, the lifelong conditioning of their stepfather had loosened its hold on them enough that they rescued their sister.

She went to the police and a letter was sent to the First Presidency. He was swiftly excommunicated and eventually convicted.

Their sister suffers from devastating trauma.

All this time he had been an active member of the church, both in Vegas and Utah.

He had ample help in the D&C and in church history to do what he did, to convince the mother of his stepchildren that he was doing right. Polygamy is still in the scriptures. The Law of Sarah is still in D&C 132, and if you look closely, you know the church denied polygamy in public and scripture while it was being practiced.

What does that denial mean? It tells would-be abusers that it's okay that despite the Church publicly denying polygamy now, that it can still have God's permission, just don't get caught.

PS Calm, if you're reading this, I think this connects what you've been trying to say about polygamy, at least in part.

Of course the Church is allowing Bishop's family to say his "sex addiction" was just him having a hard time controlling his thoughts and the worst thing he did as a "frisky back rub."

GMAFB.

Those weasely “F” ers can NEVER fess up, tell the truth, act with true compassion, or acknowledge honest wrongdoing. Since the founding of this damn religion the leadership has been abusing women and girls and covering it up. Nearly 200 years of this crap and the LDS church and their 'leaders' are still at it.

SL Tribune wrote:In an interview earlier this week, she told The Salt Lake Tribune she did not release to MormonLeaks a copy of her recorded conversation. She had shared the recording with several people, she said, and someone gave it to MormonLeaks without her consent.

She said the release may have undermined settlement negotiations she was having with Mormon officials. She asked not to be named, and The Tribune generally does not identify alleged victims of sexual assault.

Church was trying to cover it up. MormonLeaks spread sunshine.

There are pro and cons to it. The pros are that it helps the community at large realize these things do happen and that accusers should not simply be dismissed. It does spread “sunshine.”

The cons are that she didn’t consent to it and her past mistakes are now being examined even if we don’t know her name. And apparently it might hurt her settlement.

I have obtained some background information through generally reliable sources that this woman is dissembling when she says she did not give the recording to MormonLeaks.

It is also not strictly correct when she says she did not consent to its release.

She gave the recording to MormonLeaks with consent to its release, and changed her mind four hours before it was set to go public last Monday.

It may be her desire for retribution on Joseph Bishop by having the recording publicized interfered with the backroom negotiations her attorney was engaged in with the church.
