I was watching some of Hogg's interviews last night and it seems to me that he was rejected recently by colleges due to his activism.

Weren’t the rejections from University of California schools? I doubt they would see activism as a negative. My understanding is that UC schools have relatively few spots for non-residents, so I think that would be a more likely explanation for the rejections.
