It's come up a fair amount in the commentary on the story, with the idea that these people are journalists who should stick to their principles and refuse to read the scripts even if it means termination. In retrospect, I should've quoted an example or two. I get the "your job isn't worth the price" argument often enough, but it's tough here.

The hard thing about this one is that the script sounds innocuous enough unless you can pull out the context of reinforcing Trumpian narratives about "fake news" to discredit the media. Sinclair is grooming.

Everything gets heavy coverage...except that march in Utah...but this is page 2 stuff at best.

EAllusion wrote:but one thing that bothers me is the insistence that the anchors who went along should've quit in protest.

You are correct to be bothered...news anchors are supposed to simply report news, not become news. Their consciences should be reserved for op-eds etc.

EAllusion wrote:I get the impulse and there are plenty of times I've shared the sentiment. The thing is, local TV news people don't make a lot of money.

Irrelevant...the commodification of news anchors is as ignorant as the commodification of the news while complaining that said news is being treated as a business product and viewers being treated as consumers. caveat emptor.

Notwithstanding the fallacy of appealing to authority and the whole anecdotal evidence thingy - your post's point here is irrelevant and highly suspect - "several"?

EAllusion wrote: And their skills don't make for a great job transfer resume.

I am sure the "several" that you know appreciate this degradation.

Glad that integrity has a price tag in your book.

Post remarks like yours are difficult to take seriously because they come from such an uninformed, mostly speculative, position. Armchair quarterbacking is not a good position for policy making.

and as for, sinister propaganda networks, that is a bit subjective - as in the sinister part. The bell for "propaganda network" has been rung and news networks are quickly being aligned with the usual motives and methods of the sinister Wall Street persona.....soon that other union in Hollywood will monetize this and release a movie about a news empire headed up by Gordon Gekko.
