Awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to US President Barack Obama in 2009 failed to achieve what the committee hoped it would, its ex-secretary has said.

Geir Lundestad told the AP news agency that the committee hoped the award would strengthen Mr Obama.

Instead, the decision was met with criticism in the US. Many argued he had not had any impact worthy of the award.

Mr Lundestad, writing in his memoir, Secretary of Peace, said even Mr Obama himself had been surprised.

"No Nobel Peace Prize ever elicited more attention than the 2009 prize to Barack Obama," Mr Lundestad writes.

"Even many of Obama's supporters believed that the prize was a mistake," he says. "In that sense the committee didn't achieve what it had hoped for".

So because Obama was prematurely awarded the Nobel Peace Prize (which no one has ever defended), this somehow changes the fact that dozens are dead and 950+ injured because Trump decided to stir the pot without cause in the Mid-East?

Everyone who has paid any attention to that region in the past half century knew this was just a recipe for disaster. But he did it to appease his idiot religious base who think this is God's plan. And the casualties will continue to mount as this gets worse.

Trump flip-flopped hard on Syria when he said the idea of children being killed caused him to change his mind about attacking Syria, and here he is being the ONLY REASON six children were murdered at this protest. Israel slaughters them like they typically do and the USA does nothing about it. But in this case the USA is the prime driver behind it all. I mean Jesus damned Christ, is it REALLY more important for us to have an Embassy in Jerusalem than it is to keep Jerusalem neutral? The only people excited about this move is the hardliners in Israel and the idiots in this country who speak in tongues and believe Jesus rode on Dinosaurs.

Trump was just yanking chains trying to appease our idiot evangelicals who think this move is somehow fulfilling biblical prophecy.

Things had calmed down for so long between Israel and the refugees, but leave it to Trump to “F” all that up. Now were back to seeing dead kids gunned down for throwing rocks. Jerusalem is a HUGE deal to Muslims, Jews and Christians. Putting a US embassy there is just more needless agitation of a dumb religious belief, but the reason for doing it is just as religiously dumb as well.

Of course the bloodiest day in four years doesn't warrant a mention on the front page of FOX News.

Over in the sidebar at FOX you can click on a "security expert" talk about how Israel needs to defend itself, but after 3 minutes of babbling to Cavuto you realize there isn't a single mention of the number of lives lost. In the background FOX keeps playing a video clip showing one protester trying to sling something, possibly a rock or maybe a Molotov cocktail, across the border into an open sand area and it keeps looping that clip trying to give the impression to its viewers that all of these folks are posing a serious "threat" to Israel's security. What a damned joke. Whatever happened to respecting religious beliefs? Oh wait, that only matters when its YOUR religious beliefs.

You probably think Rachel Corrie deserved to be killed by Israel as well, huh? An American citizen run over by a bulldozer twice, protesting the illegal destruction of Palestinian homes. If any other country had done this we would have bombed the crap out of them. Instead we coddle Israel and enable them. Israel is the same country whose warships used 4 children on a beach playing ball as target practice.

No wonder Trump is sucking up to this terrorist state.

The fact is Israel never would have had an excuse to murder Palestinians if there wasn't a protest and there never would have been a protest unless Trump gave them something to protest. Everyone who was half educated on this subject already knew putting an American embassy in Jerusalem was a stupid move that could only lead to disaster. Trump says it will lead to peace because he's like you, an epic moron who doesn't understand anything beyond "Brown Muslims are evil and God loves Jews." Again, no embassy stunt, not protest, and children don't die and more than 2,000 people don't get shot.

This is only going to get uglier, especially now that Trump has alienated Iran, arguably the most powerful majority Muslim country on the planet.
