Probably it. Or being male, perhaps assumed that aiming to end teen violence itself is a big order to tackle. But asking how gun culture and access to firearms as an expression of that violence probably deserves to be questioned just as you did. Given kids in the US have had access to guns and been craps to each other as teens for generations. One might wonder how much the NRA has been an influence on this dynamic, even....https://www.fastcompany.com/40477572/ho ... un-culture
Jersey Girl - Let's be real. There's no way you went to a high school in Jersey and didn't see male AND female aggression, power dynamics, and all the crap that comes with being a teen on full display. You really think that's the soft target for finding a solution?

It would be a mistake to think people here don't know or think about this, but guns are a real issue, and one that far right gun nuts want us to ignore. Guns are the most effective killing tool the average citizen can legally own, and since it is much less a problem for other western countries we should be looking at how they regulate guns compared to the US. I would suggest a national licensing system requiring both criminal and mental health checks as well as a required training course on how to safely use and store guns. There should also be good laws requiring guns and ammunition be stored safely. I suspect your average gun owner in Canada is more responsible then your average gun owner in the US because less responsible people have more work to get a gun in Canada and get more training how to be more responsible with gun and ammo. Criminals in Canada also have a much harder time getting a gun meaning less of them will get a gun and the costs are much higher to get them on the black market.

Re: another mass shooting
This country and it's politicians are taking the easy way out. Guns are the answer to the HOW, not the answer to the WHY.
Were the access to guns taken away from potential mass shooters, the bodies would only continue to pile up on the suicide side of the stats.
Our youth are slaughtering themselves. Until we have the answers to the WHY and begin addressing the answers by developing interventions, it doesn't matter if it's a mass shooter or some kid hanging himself or overdosing herself at home.
The body count will continue to rise.

I do think the place where Jersey Girl's concern for protecting gun rights and also addressing the problem of access as well as use lies in tackling how gun culture is perceived and expressed. At some point, gun owners need to come to the realization that the NRA fear campaign is not working, the government isn't the enemy, and if they don't take on becoming the source for improving the American relationship with firearms they will be in part responsible when the wave of protest and apathy towards ownership by an increasing percentage of Americans ends poorly.
I think they are guilty of avoiding the responsibility side of the equation.

She would do well to fund staffing increases of school psychologists and counselors.

BS. Fear mongering among the NRA crowd is the ease way out for those trying to make defense of the 2nd amendment a zero sum game.
Tackle the responsibility and gun culture question. That's hard, but it's necessary.
