...significantly raise rates on Amazon as retaliation for critical coverage of him in the Bezos owned Washington Post.
Forgetting for a moment how dumb this revenge plan is as it wouldn't actually hurt Amazon, this is egregious corruption. It's another one of those for the "What if Obama..." files where he likely would've faced a very serious attempt at impeachment on this ground alone. And in this case, that probably would've been justified. It's quite bad. If you were ever to draw up a list of grievances against Trump ala the Declaration of Independence, this is one that ought to make the list.

I think we should really start documenting these kinds of things in a thread dedicated to the Swamp. So if you don't mind I'm going to quote this over in the other threa.d

This is one of those stories where I also just wish the domestic press would cover it like they do when these sort of things happen in foreign countries. Because if it was happening elsewhere, we would immediately recognize this as expected if the country was ruled by an autocrat and a worrying sign a country's democracy was collapsing if not. "Ruling regime seeks to punish rogue oligarch for critical press coverage..."

Trump wants to run the country like it's his business. Bezos owns Washington Post, critical of Trump, so you try to squash your competitor by using monopoly rates to transport his merchandise. If Bezos owned the Washington Times instead of the Post, you wouldn't hear a peep out of Trump about Amazon's postal rates.
Either Trump does not know the difference between his business and democracy, or he simply doesn't care.

It's both.

Why this is not glaringly and increasingly obvious to do many otherwise seemingly rational and at least semi-competent people is an unending source of both despair and amazement to me.
No precept or claim is more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.
