Anyone care to define the difference between the following 2 items ? : 1. A confidential human source. 2. A spy.
And does your definition change if either of them is tightly regulated and essential to protecting the country ?
I'm asking for a Facebook friend.

IN my own subjective universe, a source is not necessarily a spy. Someone can be a source without that being their primary purpose. Spying I think of as a primary purpose.
But the FBI has been spying on Americans in organized crime, gangs, the KKK, Black Panthers, etc. If the FBI or Justice Department is investigating Russian interference in our elections and that information leads them to people within the Trump universe, there is absolutely no reason why people who know Trump should be given special dispensation for the interactions with potential agents of the Russian Government.

Of course Carlson proves what a liar HE is by acting like there was any "spying" on the Trump campaign using a game of semantics in order to buttress Trump's baseless conspiracy theory.
EA recently said it best:
the FBI sending an lifelong Republican informant to meet a couple of times with George Papadopolous to see if he could get information about him possibly being compromised by Russia, because the FBI was already in possession of information pointing to him being compromised by Russia, constitutes the FBI essentially having a spy implanted into the Trump campaign to disrupt and undermine it. This remains true even though the FBI warned the Trump campaign about their counterintelligence findings indicating Russian attempts to infiltrate their campaign.
At the same time, however, when it was announced that Papadopolous pled guilty to a small charge in a plea deal to cooperate with the Mueller investigation and that he was indeed likely involved in illicit dealings with Russia, the Trump camp said that he basically had no affiliation with the campaign and was basically just a coffee boy that few barely noticed.
Which is it?
Don't expect journalistic integrity or any kind of critical thinking to be happening at FOX or over in the bubble known as subgenius's world.
Only in the morally bankrupt world of Trump supporters would this be spun as a "spygate" against the folks who are actually trying to protect America's best interests, and the culprits become victims of the evil FBI. Never mind the fact that Trump had many people in his campaign who were compromised by a hostile foreign nation. If this were discovered five years later Trump would then be attacking the Obama administration by saying "What did Obama do about it when he knew? He did NOTHING!" But he did do something, and now he's whining about it because he feels the walls closing in and he knows he can say anything and FOX will carry the water for him so that idiots like subgenius blindly go along.

Remember, it’s important to maintain that ‘safe place’ environment for the snowflake Fox cohort that needs to be massaged and given their nightly hot chocolate of sweet distortions. It’s part of the routine of telling them how special and right they are before being ushered off to bed by Mommy Tucker. ; )
