The issue is very much about minors being separated from the parents at the border because that is a new policy being enacted by the Trump administration. The majority of minors who were arriving in 2014 were older adolescent youth who arrived without a parent or legal guardian. The Obama admin rightly received heat for their ill-prepared attempt to do what government is good at doing poorly. That being, not being adaptable to change and kids were the victims of that. The shelters and processes currently in place are largely a result of government doing only what it can do that the private sector cannot. That being, scaling up and applying the resources needed to move big things that would otherwise be too expensive or lack the reward mechanisms to entice private enterprise in a way that also provides a just result. That was going on in 2016, 2017 and is going on today in 2018. And the demand keeps increasing as well.

The Trump campaign has sins all their own when it comes to forcible separation of families because that is new. And it's not mistaken to direct that criticism at Trump.

Nope - the bulk of outrage, headlines, editorial cartoons, and posturing has been focused on the "concentration camps", the "kennels", and the "abandonment".

The policy for separation at the border is receiving attention as well, but this method of detainment is not new. You are trying to spin the story just to keep the hair-fire du jour going...the truth is, until it was politically advantageous to you, you did not care about the immigrant kids in 2018, 2017, 2016, or even 2014....and I would wager you did not think twice about those 2014 images (assuming you even saw them then).

Do you have any ideas about why they are crossing in between ports of entry and not directly through points of entry? I raised this question previously and no responses to it.

If a person shows up at a port of entry seeking asylum status but is then subjected to forced separation of minors from parents, which is happening if not universally, then your solution wouldn't include them. It only leaves open people seeking visas.

So, yeah, words and reality.
