Re: Great Story
Yes, it was a link and run. Yes, I clicked on it because I always enjoy a great story. And, yes, I thought it was a great story about a man I also had never heard of.

Agreed. I read it last night and appreciate Markk sharing it. I'm not sure why it's such a bid deal to offer up a short sentence or a quote from the article that would highlight what it was about, though.

That's because posting crap about each other happens right here on the board; I don't have to visit another website in order to read it.
Give me a break Shades. It is a great story about a man I never heard of. I thought others might enjoy it as much as I did.
Maybe we will. So, is it about the second black guy to play in the major leagues? Is it about the first man to survey the U.S. / Canadian border? Is it about a dude who loaned billions of dollars to Russia so they could build the trans-Siberian railway?
Details like that would assist us in determining whether we're interested enough to click on your link.
But thanks for all the time you put in here.
You're welcome.

You are wound way to tight shades...if what I did bothers you, you probably line your peas up on your plate before you eat them.

Hey Markk,
You probably weren't around or didn't follow the threads when this became a thing. I don't recall when it was exactly but for whatever reason there was a minor uproar on the board by some participants over a number of posters simply starting OPs with links and not adding commentary as well. It didn't exactly originate with Shades though he was also clearly one of those who was annoyed by it.
It never really bothered me because there is this thing called the internet that is constantly throwing misleading and usually unhelpful descriptions and links at me anyway so making a value judgment here or there as to whether or not clicking a link was worth doing was no big deal.
But I think there was a vote or something. Or it was at least debated. Anyway, there's history. And now the expectation is that everyone add a blurb or two regarding any link you post as an OP to ensure it's somewhat clear what someone should expect to find.
Like, maybe saying, "Cool story about the Jackie Robinson of Bull Riding from the 1960's. I enjoyed it and thought others might, too." would probably have been more than enough.

Thanks for the history. To me, this is just stupid, to quote SG..."hair fire."
Being my cynical self, I want to do it again, but I don't want to upset the PC police so I will be a good trailer park clone and try to never do such a terrible act again.
Thanks for talking me off the ledge.

it is not cynical, it is immature, or rather, it is masturbatory. You literally started the thread to share something and then get whiny when people don't clamor around simply because you bothered to cut-n-paste a blind link. Your style of OP is the only trailer park thing here....perhaps you are unfamiliar with click-bait?

"masturbatory?" Now you did it...now you have to go talk to your bishop.
