Look also at the German American Bund, the KKK, the Silver Shirts, the Christian Front, the Minutemen, the Bruder Schweigen, Sovereign Citizens, the various militias extant throughout the 90s and up to now...none represented of "The Left" but all dangerous domestic terrorists. I agree with this...with the caveat I don't think fear is the correct response. But I also don't think you meant it so much as you were using the term from the OP. Extremists at the ends of the political spectrum are most likely to be intolerant of other views. And intolerance, certitude and ignorance are the unholy trinity at the heart of the worst of human behaviors.
