Apparently someone somewhere is beating the drum of civil war. And we get to see firsthand who is most primed to heed the call.

What does the easy to say phrase "small government" really entail?

Guess I should have passed on your questions and invitation to "discuss." No worries, I won't make the same mistake again.

We appear to have very different ideas of what the word again implies. Or do you mean that post where you said you weren't responding to anyone specifically and to not take that personally was actually supposed to be a discussion of my question?

So which of these socialist institutions should lose significant traction?

  • The draft?
  • The Military?
  • Public Transportation?
  • Public Roads?
  • Public Health?
  • Public Schools?

So ... it appears that Ceeboo thought it worthwhile to spend a considerable time not only deleting all his posts, but even deleting the title of the thread.

When I think of the bitterness of soul that this seems to imply, I feel sorry for him.

I did not participate in the final few pages, but from the quotes preserved in the thread it seems that Ceeboo dreamed of a world in which all red-blooded Americans would Unite Behind Their President, just because he is the president.

When, I wonder, does he think that last happened for any significant stretch of time?

What would that even mean? Americans are no longer to exercise their liberty of stating, if they think it to be the case, that the president's policies are foolish, abhorrent, and dangerous for their country? Surely that is their duty as citizens? But if Ceeboo didn't mean that, what did he mean? I ask because I don't mind people disagreeing with me, but I find it disturbing when I simply can't make any sense of what they are saying.

Can anybody help?

actually, those are not socialist per se but are more akin to fascist institutions whereas "value to the nation" is in the place of "value to/fro each person" (this distinction is likely why these institutions were able to survive).
But socialism alone when applied to these institutions has proven to be their demise....which is why there is not a pure-bred socialist country functioning today. Hybrid economies seem to be viable for socialist principles...some may argue that this is a symbiotic relationship, but more accurately socialism is parasitic.

I am sorry this happened, Ceeboo. I regret the fact that you may not even read this because you have vacated MDB. I thought some of your interlocutors were very respectful. Take honorentheos, for example. You were actually very rude to him when he asked reasonable questions. Or at least it seemed that this was the case to me. And if those questions (honorentheos') are considered out of bounds, then maybe it is the case that you need to step back from this situation. But I have to say I am more concerned about your withdrawal, and you, frankly, than I am with what I am seeing on this thread. People here have always been full of dumb complaints, pettiness, stupid retorts, and the like. It comes with the territory. It is seeing Ceeboo withdraw after erasing most of his posts that has me deeply worried about Ceeboo.

Take care, Ceeboo. Remember that there are still people here who are concerned about your welfare.

Ceeboo didn't want to bridge the gap. So he burned the bridges. His choice, but just take note that it's an act of anger. Because he could not successfully engage in arguments, he kicked over the table. Many of us have felt the impulse. A vacation from the board wouldn't hurt anybody. I hope he comes back.
