A prime example of that is how Trump stupidly blames the family seperation fiasco at the border due to adherence to "Democrat laws", as if these laws could somehow have been passed through congress without the support of the Republican majority in both houses of congress.

When people are seeking asylum, they have no illusions they have a "right" to asylum. They are simply seeking it, and have to make a case for why they deserve it. They are essentially coming to this country looking for mercy.
We have a couple choices if we don't accept their stories: we could be dicks about it and separate families, or kindly till them they won't find asylum in the US and send the family back intact. I wonder which is more humane...
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.
