Would I shut down Trump if I could? As much as it pains me to read his tweets or hear him speak I wouldn't. Ever. And believe you me it's distressing to know this guy is our President.
But here's the rub. I voted for Hillary Clinton and half of what she would say irked the ever living crap out of me. So I understand how the Right felt when Obama and Hillary Clinton would get their platform to say what they wanted to say.
So, back to opening post's point. I think unless Facebook becomes a utility it has every right to run its business how it wants, and it's up to us to use it or not. Same with bakers. Same with tailors. Whatever. We may not like how people think, speak, and conduct business, but I find it far more problematic to force people to do something they don't want to do. That's authoritariansim and that's un-American.

I agree, and one thing that I don't believe has been brought up is Twitter has not taken any action against infowars or Alex Jones. In fact Alex Jones just tweeted this.
The internet Dark Ages has now descended upon us, where radical left-wing tech giants run by deranged, mentally ill communists will decide whether your content qualifies as “hate speech.” https://Twitter.com/RealAlexJones/statu ... gr%5Etweet
So there does not appear to be any grand conspiracy among tech giants to shut down Alex Jones.
Also, Jones needs to realize that his right to free speech comes with responsibility for that speech. When a guy shows up at a Pizza shop with a gun searching for pedophiles because Alex Jones told him that's where the pedophiles are hiding, that's on Jones. If some guy goes on a frog killing spree beause the government is using chemicals that turned the frogs gay, the blood of those frogs is on Jones. He can't use the "I'm just an entertainer" defense. He knows he is making money by manipulating people who have serious mental issues.

Yep!

A Trump supporter making references to both gaslighting and 1984 in the same thread. That's more ironic than rain on your wedding day. Next he will accuse us of having orange faces and weird hair.

At least on Facebook. Or YouTube. Or Spotify.
I would prefer that all of local the television news programs be run by a single corporation that mandates reading identical messages across the country during news broadcasts. Now that's me some freeeedummmm.
