Note that "God" is highlighted in the background.

Mormons really do love Trump, don't they? They should make him an honorary GA. Joseph Smith would approve.

Even though I am familiar with this guys paintings I found myself a bit shocked by this one. I fear that Trump supporters can be more awful than he.

Setting aside everything else that's bananas about the painting, the light choices are bizarre. It's like Trump has a special spotlight that only shines on him from the center-left of the painting which both highlights the top of his head while also up lighting his face in the way a carefully set-up face-on news broadcast might be lit. Trump then reflects this light onto Mueller's face as the only explanation I can see for how Mueller's face is lit as it is. But there's also a reflected source coming from the viewer that is lighting Mueller's side and back...but not past him onto anyone else who are all lit with a strange global soft light that must also be pointed down...then the flag spotlight that's pointing at "God" as you noted but causes illogical shadows when one looks at the columns...yikes.

We have always had "Trump supporters" but we have known them by other names.

Yes yes, he glows like gods anointed.

Normally he paints with a murk expressing the soul of Mormon depression. The light shines on,or from, Trump here as if the first note of hope has entered the artist's mind and vision.

Al Capone pistol whipping an underling. Well on third look I see the pistol is actually a magnifying glass. It is still a violent image.

It may be a partial derail but for me Macnaughtons color palette seems to capture exactly an emotional memory for me of being active Mormon. It may be influenced by the color of the chapel but that would only be a part.

I was googling 'Trump renaissance art' in order to participate, and I saw this piece. I couldn't resist.

It's sort of a soft core porno right wing dystopian future. The painting below is telling. No one is trampling on the flag, this is the metaphorical truth in the heart of Trump and his followers. Patriotism expressed through the soul of Thomas Kinkade.

I'm waiting for the painting where he's writing a check to Stormy Daniels while gazing soulfully at a picture of Melania.

what really are the nightmares festering in these supporters minds and imagination?

Mcnaughton seems to live in some nightmare hell in a galaxy far far away.
