ACTIVE MEASURES: Putin, Trump & the Assault on Democracy

Active Measures is a well made feature length documentary now available on Hulu. The film describes, often in great detail, Vladimir Putin's decades long history of using his intelligence agencies and assets to compromise leaders in other countries in order to win by covert political action what Russia could never achieve militarily.

The film should be 'must see' for all Americans, especially 'freedom loving' Mormons who voted for Trump. The saga of Paul Manafort's $600K/month salary for helping install a pro Russian government in Ukraine, and his tens of millions of ill-gotten gains from working for the Russian mafia while it set up its US operation in Trump Tower in New York before he became Trump's campaign manager is but one highlight.

The well documented use of Trump properties in the US and foreign countries as a means of laundering billions for Putin and the Russian mafia through cascading real estate transactions is another eye opener.

The mainstream news media often refers to the fact that Trump understands he was illegitimately elected and fears the possible consequences - and well he should.

Below is a link to a trailer for the film. It takes up the story with the fall-out from the now infamous Helsinki summit news conference where Trump publicly sided with Putin rather than with his own US intelligence agencies regarding Russian interference in the 2016 election. The film then goes back in time to describe the careers of both Putin and Trump showing how Trump became the perfect mark for Putin and Russian intelligence agencies.

One of the takeaways from the film is that the fate of Paul Manafort is only a hint of what New York and other state and federal law enforcement agencies and prosecutors could well have in store for Trump and his family and cronies once he no longer has the protection of the office of President. Sure looks to me like the best thing Trump could do the day he leaves office is ask Putin for a one way ticket to Moscow.

That's frightening! I can't help fearing that there may not be enough remaining politicians (especially Republican ones) in high political office with sufficient integrity, determination and influence to correct or reverse the damage already done to our republic, democracy and security by these machinations.
