I think it's worth noting that many within the industry have come to terms with the conclusions of their own research (that they paid for).
The risk of climate change is clear and the risk warrants action. Increasing carbon emissions in the atmosphere are having a warming effect. There is a broad scientific and policy consensus that action must be taken to further quantify and assess the risks.

It is somewhat reassuring that even some major oil companies are coming around to admitting that global warming is a very real problem that must be addressed.
No precept or claim is more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.
