The boot in the picture used by DrC has laces. So unfortunately for his supposed irony, it is just a common old boot, not a jackboot, which does not have laces.
I stand corrected! I find it ironic they'd use the image, not of a jackboot as Chap kindly pointed out, but of something akin to a Doc Martens boot, which is associated with thugs that look like this:

Hey, don’t forget about their association with several million style-conscious Goth teens.

The punk kids at my high school would rock the Docs, and I was always envious of them. I was trying to be a good Mormon boy, and all I wanted to do was wear black and brood with the smokers. Heh.

Just watch out for those guys. Get a few dozen of them in the same spot and they could gang-mope an opponent into a near-coma state. They’re a force to be reckoned with.

Umm, two studious and nonviolent young female members of my family (not mopey Goths, by the way) are the proud possessors of pairs of Doc Martens. I went to the shop with one of them when she bought her pair. They are nowadays mostly sold to people who buy them as a fashion item.
Dr C should mix with a wider range of people.

Oh, please tell me who I mix with since you're apparently on EA's same wavelength regarding other posters on this board. Do tell.

Yes, but aren’t you a Brit? You have a good reason to own them. : ) If I remember correctly they figure strongly in both British fashion and practical work culture.

Doc Martens were in their heyday here in the States in the mid to late 90's. Everyone I knew owned a pair. They fit the mainstreaming and mall-ifying of the grunge scene into the bland alternative aesthetic of the times. Today my daughter and all her friends wear Converse and the like. A pair of Docs would stand out.
