Kevin Graham wrote:It just blows my mind that Republicans think they're in position to whine and moan about unfair tactics by Democrats or politicizing during a Supreme Court appointment.

Anyone remember Merrick Garland who never even got a vote because Republicans said the election was almost a year away? Then with another election just two months away they're desperately trying to rush to vote on Trump's pick.

This is what makes Graham's (and Ben Sasse's) indignation so contemptible. It's clear these guys are relying on electorate amnesia.

Shameless damned hypocrisy. That is the GOP.

I think it's obvious from what we've heard that there isn't enough to convict Kavanaugh of attempted rape. But that's kind of the point. We haven't heard enough. Hence... a desire for an investigation.

But have we heard enough to think he shouldn't be a high court judge? I think so. The moment he mentioned conspiracies, "leftists" and the Clintons in his statement, he disqualified himself. Hell, I've heard enough that I wouldn't want any female friends to date the asshole.

Moments before the panel convened, Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake, a member of the committee, announced he would vote to confirm Kavanaugh, who he said was entitled to the "presumption of innocence ... absent corroborating evidence."

"While some may argue that a different standard should apply regarding the Senate's advice and consent responsibilities, I believe that the Constitution's provisions of fairness and due process apply here as well," Flake said. "I will vote to confirm Judge Kavanaugh."

Well, I think this probably indicates how the vote will go next week. Like I've mentioned a few times, this may be the lesser of two problems for us, the electorate, because I'm fairly certain (according to the chatter on the Interwebz) Barrett was in the pipeline as a 2nd choice.

That comment from Flake seems disingenuous given that he is part of a process that is deliberately not pursuing investigation that theoretically could provide more helpful evidence such as interviewing relevant witnesses like Judge.

Perhaps Democrats could have persuaded Clarence Thomas to cross over on some issues had they not subjected him to a high tech lynching. Instead they've helped polarize the country even further and made lifelong enemies.
And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

He probably thinks that because I won't indulge his dumb posts. He once called me a fascist for putting him on ignore, I guess because I was censoring myself?

Not too bright, that one.

It reminds me of that Joe Rogan Fear Factor show, where one of the challenges was to eat something disgusting. I always thought, That's not a matter of fear; I wouldn't do that as a matter of standards.

Same deal with him.

With him retiring, it is a bit of a wonder why he capitulated. It feels to me like something else is going on, beyond party loyalty, we don't know about.

If Thomas's jurisprudence is because he was accused of sexual harrassment and now feels unwilling to compromise with positions Democrats might favor, then he is unfit to sit on a court.

Fortunately, the guy is relatively consistent in having a super-quirky view of Constitutional interpretation that happens to produce far right results conservative power-brokers tend to like.
