Well. The Democrats have another week to keep hammering away at this. I thought the GOP was moving forward Monday or Tuesday with the vote.

It's hard to imagine the FBI being able to turn up anything in a week that would strongly corroborate a very old allegation. They might be able to color in the lines a little more ala details that keep trickling out like Kavanaugh associates calling his ancillary claims lies. You know Judge is going to clam up. So what will they find?

This strikes me as win/win for Republicans relative to the baseline. If nothing definitive is turned up, they'll spin that as having "fully investigated" the matter, thus clearing them for confirmation. If by some off chance something does turn up, the media probably was going to get to that too, and they just saved themselves from a nomination that is a suicide pact.

I really don't understand why Avenatti hasn't already unleashed his witnesses.

And I don't understand why Republicans like Lindsey Graham are making such a ruckus about a Democratic foul play by not releasing all of this until the last hour. Ford explained why that happened and it seems a perfectly reasonable explanation without all the cloak and dagger BS coming out of the substupids in the world.

And if it had been released earlier that would have likely benefited the Democrats more because that would allow more time for all this other stuff to get looked into and the Avenatti witnesses probably would have come out earlier as well.

Now we have classmates calling in calling Kavanaugh a bald faced liar about who he really was in college.

This seems to be getting a lot of run in conservative media. I'm almost impressed at how stupid it is. But there's something underneath it that fascinates me. Even if people don't know the science of phobia, fear of flying among people who nonetheless fly unless they are overstressed is quite common. So common that there's plenty of people in the target audience for this argument who either experience it themselves or know someone who does. Yet, it's going on anyway. Don't they care that this will destroy their credibility as good faith reasoners or people capable of reasoning above an elementary school level among people who know better from personal experience alone?

No, they don't. But why? I'm not sure, but I have a theory. I think a lot of conservatives who hear arguments like this either are 1) dupes or 2) people who think it is fair game to make bad faith arguments and pat themselves on the back for being smart enough to not be fooled by it while cheering on the propaganda effort. I think people probably occupy dual roles of sometimes being the dupe and sometimes being the cynic. If that's true, then it's safe to do things like this because part of your audience will be suckered by it and the other part won't care because they think it is a game. Win/win.

Just a theory, though.

Now that Kavanaugh has passed Committee vote (check), the Senate calls for a maximum of 1 week FBI investigation into only any credible allegations. This investigation being requested by Republican Senators ultimately results in rubbing Democrats' noses in Kavanaugh's confirmation. They get to applaud themselves as doing due dilligence while further embarassing the Democrats.
Feinstein's mid-term rally of the troops is a out to blow up in her face....she tossed the Republican Brer Rabbit into the election briar patch.

Yes, a theory...and not a good one.
Like your other theory for how if a Republican is interpreted as telling falsehoods about an unrelated circumstance then he must be disqualified from all thinga because he has "no credibility!".
But if a Democrat is interpreted as telling falsehoods about an unrelated circumstance then people don't understand the subtleties of her deception and she surely "has credibility!".

notwithstanding the supporting evidence that diminished her veracity (see also "oh, these expensive lawyers? i don't know how they got here or how they are getting paid")...etc etc etc.

You guys just insist that every defeat is the result of other people's stupidity and never your own....hows that strategy working out for ya?

Lol. Of course not. As a bonus, the fellow using that argument here has also invoked Godwin’s Law in comparing the request of an investigation of Ford’s claims to something that ‘Nazis would do’.

Honesty and integrity are principles that were long ago rooted out of the argument strategy of these folks.

The idea that flying proves a person is lying when they say they have a fear of flying is impossibly ignorant. And it's ignorant in a way a lot of ordinary people who also have a fear of flying, but fly or know people who do will pick up on.

Which one are you in this case subs? The patsy or dishonest cynic?

Apart from your overestimation on whatever imaginary consequence results from Ford's ability to fly to Hawaii and Tahiti, your false dilemma is amusing.
But alas, im that 3rd option - the realist, whereas it was remarkably clear that Ford had no credibility for her allegation; was (at best) a pawn; and was dishonest.

The Senate offered to fly staffers out to interview her, and she declined. She declined because she didn't know what that meant, or something. It's not like she couldn't have her lawyer present when the staffers arrived. Does anyone believe the 'fear of flying' gambit was anything other than a delaying move?
